Inspiring Conversations with Brooklynn Jackson of Formfit Athletics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklynn Jackson.

Hi Brooklynn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business when I was about 16 years old in high school selling lipgloss for my brand Coby Collectionz… as a child, I had two entrepreneur parents and watched their businesses thrive and constantly grow because of the hard work and effort they put in everyday. Going to my high school Cass technical Highschool in Detroit also played a major part in being who I have become to this day. Being at a school that set me up for success by being around like-minded students as well as build in curriculums that taught you life essentials like how to speak and financial literacy only helped me start even more. When I did start Coby Collectionz selling lipgloss, it wasn’t necessarily what I would have liked to sell but it was a foot in the door… It ended up being a huge success but I still knew it wasn’t for me… I then soon expanded into selling hair extensions which went hand and hand with my mom’s salon Sharmells hair salon and made us a one stop shop! This also was another huge success and let me know that I really love being my own boss and constantly making woman feel beautiful!

As Coby Collectionz started to grow, I was content until I sat down and really thought about what I could see myself adding to my brand as at this time, I was leaving out of high school due to the pandemic in 2020… So I thought long and hard about what could possibly be something that I could put my creativity into and make bigger than ever. Then this is when form fit was born. I initially just spoke on it but never was really going to go through with the idea but something in my spirit said this will be the one. I followed my heart and created form fit and my first release went viral on Twitter and I had 200 orders… This is when I knew it would be so big! I was so overwhelmed with joy and all I wanted was to go hard and constantly push it. So this leads me to where I am today still grinding and still pushing!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, nothing is all peaches and cream but I can say the pros most definitely outweigh the cons. I did alot of things that most definitely has cost me time and money but I’m happy that I did it because now I know and I can learn from my mistakes and understand why they didn’t work for me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business cobycollectionz sells hair extensions and hair products. We are really known for our virgin hair and it does really well within our hair salon so it makes us a one stop shop where you get your natural hair treated with our hair products and also can purchase extensions all in the same spot. My business formfit said athletic wear, loungewear and comfy wear. Anything that’s comfortable we have it… I feel this sets us apart because we cater to those casual days that woman need. The ones where they just run errands and run around or go to the gym or simply just want a day to be relaxed.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
A risk that I have taken is even starting my new business formfit. It seemed like the best and worst time to start. I was starting college as well as a whole other business to focus on. So I feel like the time is never right but just start and don’t let that gut feeling go to waste. I’m so big on risk taking because you never know if you never try. Your biggest risk can possibly set you up for life.
