Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly West.
Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My career began in fashion and retail, and after graduating from Alabama A&M University (an HBCU), I worked as the Maryland state program coordinator assisting military kids with dealing with parents who were deployed in the Middle East. Promoting and building a community around this effort helped me sharpen my skills in helping organizations with communicating their value proposition. I later became a contributing writer for a digital platform and launched a style blog. From that point, I began hosting television segments, interviewed celebrities, and began to cover various events and conferences as an official media outlet.
I worked as a consultant and coordinator for a DoD contractor, and the experience I gained running that contract convinced me to shift my work to Public Relations and Digital Media.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to entrepreneurship is never a smooth path. It requires passion, strength, and tenacity. A few of the struggles that I’ve encountered included finding the right niche, reaching my target audience, and understanding all the aspects of running a business. I then connected with several organizations that support small businesses, found outstanding business mentors, and took a few business courses.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Kimberly West Agency is a boutique public relations firm servicing small businesses, public figures, and start-ups. What sets my firm apart from others is the ability to infuse style (and flair) into marketing and public relations campaigns. I help my clients think outside the box while telling their unique stories in a way that connects with their customers.
I provide brand design, image consulting, media relations, social media planning, and special events planning for my clients.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would like to dedicate the success of my business and professional advancement to my family. They are truly my greatest advocates, supporters, and cheerleaders. I also owe a great amount of gratitude to my business mentors for being a sounding board and providing a roadmap for entrepreneurship.
