Meet Quanishia Dixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quanishia Dixon.

Hi Quanishia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I was a child. Growing up watching my great grandmother in the kitchen cooking and baking started my love for baking. As I grew older, I would make things here and there. In high school, I joined an organization called FCCLA. We would travel to Athens, GA and compete against high school students all over. One year I left a lot of my key ingredients behind and had to make due with what I had. Even leaving those ingredients behind I lost by 2 points. I knew then I had a talent. After high school, I still didn’t take it serious I was still only baking things here and there. In 2021 I decided to start my business up and take it serious, and here we are!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but it hasn’t been a bad one either. The biggest struggles I say I’ve faced is self-doubt and lack of patience. I expected to pick up on techniques the very first try and wanted things to just happen just like that, and it don’t work like that. Another challenge I faced was taking good pictures of my product, People eat with their eyes and no matter how good your product really is if it doesn’t look good they won’t shop. Stepping outside my comfort zone to try new things and network. Growth is uncomfortable, struggles build character/confidence. If you’re comfortable, there’s no room for growth. Now that I know that I am ready to take off.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Social Worker by day and a baker at night. I bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, any sweet treat you can think of. I am most proud of stepping outside my comfort zone and being a part of Dessert Wars ATL as well as my growth from when I first started to now… What sets me apart is that I bake with a passion and love. Everything that Hi Sa’Weetness bake is fresh and made with the freshest and quality ingredients.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to one ignore the naysayers. Everybody isn’t going to be happy for you, and everybody isn’t meant to come on your journey with you. Don’t be afraid to ask other bakers how they did it, its ok to ask for help. Take constructive criticism, something may apply and some may not but take it all in. Most importantly invest in yourself and your business. Buy quality tools and ingredients it makes a difference. The money you make from your business pour it back into your business. The biggest thing I wish I would have known when I was starting out is to have patience with myself, there’s several different ways and many things to know/learn. Also, to ask for advice from people that’s already doing it.
