Today we’d like to introduce you to Dometrice Clemmons.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Let me begin by saying that I am an Atlanta native a proud “Grady Baby.” The first noteworthy milestone of my journey was being a first-generation college graduate. This milestone represented the beginning of progress for my entire family. Interestingly, at first, I was on a track to go to law school, but clearly, that was not my purpose, and so instead, after graduating from Spelman College, I worked as a middle school teacher in City Schools of Decatur. After only a year in a half, teaching fulfilled that part of my journey, and it was time for me to move on to something else. I was burning with a passion for entrepreneurship. One of the first businesses I started was owning my child care facility and an affordable private school. I began as a young black woman who did not have a support system around me that embodied the vision for entrepreneurship. Yet, I knew what I wanted to accomplish: financial independence. Undoubtedly, it was a difficult journey that included becoming a divorcee, single parent, homeless, and at one point dead broke. But all of my experiences thus far have made me the woman I am today. All of the strengths I have as a self-made, self-funded business mogul, business consultant, and political change agent came from having a strong mother, the relationships I developed with mentors who had the experiences, and a lifestyle that aligned with who and what I wanted to accomplish as an industry leader. Today, I am overwhelmed with pride, mainly for being the boss over the past 29 years- leading, serving, and most importantly, paying it forward through my philanthropic and consulting initiatives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has certainly never been an easy journey for me. First, I had the typical lack of access to capital and lacked a support system of valuable individuals to my goals and objectives.
The main struggle I had as a young entrepreneur was to learn a lot on my own, especially from my failures. Some days, I went to bed and woke up clouded with uncertainties. Yes, it has been challenging and sometimes arduous, but I have always prided myself in forging a new path, making it happen by any means necessary, and creating a new reality not just for myself but for my family and my community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What sets you apart from others?
As a businesswoman, I self-funded most of my business investments from the profits of the other businesses I successfully developed and owned. In 2016, I became the first African American woman elected for the Henry County Board of Commissioners in Georgia, a tremendous recognition for my community and me. Despite having a long list of achievements, I would say that my approach to business sets me apart from others. I am specifically passionate about training and giving other minority business owners the tools to compete in the free enterprise market through education. In addition, I focus on my generational wealth; I also raise more than 500K a year collectively for the non-profits. Finally, I am passionate about financial independence.
