Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Weaver.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started college wanting to be a lawyer! I had always been into the legal side of things in the Civil Rights Movement to everyday “Judge” shows. Also, I spent a little time in a debate class in high school. I quickly learned I did not fancy writing papers but was astute with numbers. So, I tried accounting as a major! It was the best decision I made in college. On the 1st test, I received a 100; and I knew I had found my niche. Still, I did not know the accounting field of the real world. One of my professors, Dr. Elson, was my main drive to become a Certified Public Accountant. After graduation, I went to work at Henderson & Godbee, LLP. I learned so much there; it solidified my career path. I don’t think they know it, but Maureen, Robin, Kaylane, and Megan always made me feel most welcome! Each of them taught me different things about the profession and life! While working in the Small Business Department, I gained a lot of insight into small business and their issues. In that department, my love for small businesses grew. All of that led to my pursuit in which I help other small businesses navigate the complexities and compliance issues of accounting.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Rarely are career ambitions smooth! Things were smooth as far as CPA testing and studying! However, I have a husband and two sons whom I love dearly! Public accounting is demanding in knowledge and time. I found myself not having time for my family. I feel the pull was God pushing me toward an entrepreneurship path. After four years, I had to leave public accounting and move to governmental accounting. It was a struggle! Yet, it allowed me to have more time with my family and time to start my business. Conflicts and struggles push us into destiny! All in all, I still get to help small businesses, spend time with my family, and delve into new ventures!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a virtual and in-person Certified Public Accountant. I offer a wide variety of services including income taxes, tax advice, entity planning, payroll, bookkeeping, sales tax returns, IRS representations, general business consultations, and much more. You can visit www.bwcpa.services to read more of my offerings. I specialize in small business governmental compliance and non-profit activities. Lastly, I often give speeches to our community about financial awareness and literacy. I am most proud of my company’s ability to tailor services to each client based on their needs. I am set apart from others because I am a part of less than 2% of African American CPAs. As a Certified Public Accountant, we go through rigorous training each year and are held to higher than average standards by the government! I am more than capable of handling your needs.
What are your plans for the future?
Currently, I plan to grow my accounting business. I know God has other things for me, but this is the current season. I’m reveling here for a while, but there will be bigger and better on the horizon. You guys will have to follow me on the journey!
