Meet Charity Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Washington.

Hi Charity, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Charity Washington but I go by “Char” to most people. I’m a 26 year old Fashion Stylist, artist and content creator from Columbia, South Carolina. I’m a lover of all things creative but I didn’t find interest in fashion in the typical “play dress up in mommy’s clothes type of way”. As long as I can remember, I’ve always loved sneakers.

I found out about NIKEiD in elementary school through my older cousins and would spend HOURS creating design after design on the family computer. Coming from a single parent household, brand new Nikes (or anything new for that matter) were definitely not happening so I would rock my classic Reeboks, Maui Islands and K-Swiss with the reversible tongues like they were Dolce and Gabbana.

Going into high school at 2009, I started to dive more into fashion as a whole. The merge of skateboarding, Black culture and the music at the time became a huge influence on how I approached individuality in my wardrobe. To my mom’s excitement, I became obsessed with thrift and consignment stores. Where else can you ball out on a $100 budget??? Drawing inspiration from Pharrell, Misa Hylton, Lil Kim, June Ambrose, Virgil Abloh, Rihanna, the 90s, and Korean/Japanese street style, I started developing a style that was 100% my own.

About five years ago, one of my aunts told me that I spend so much time on social media that I should use it to do what I love (shopping and helping people put their outfits together) and get paid from it. Fast forward to 2021 and I did just that.

I started Amare Fidem Styling to help people develop and be confident in their personal style without breaking their budget or settling for clothes that aren’t inspiring out of frustration. Every single person on this Earth is divinely unique and complex, let your wardrobe show who you are.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Dealing with homelessness as a kid, the passing of my Mother right after high school and learning how to be an adult has been a wild ride.

Comparison, fear, a perceived lack of opportunities, you name it- I dealt with it and still dealing with it some of it today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Amare Fidem Styling exists as a helping hand for those that desire their wardrobe to be authentic to themselves.

We have a high focus in Music Video, Photoshoot and Event styling but we also offer personal shopping services to help you develop and elevate your everyday style.

AFS is known for supporting Black designers, creatives and entrepreneurs as well as creating eye-catching looks that can suit just about every budget.

What sets AFS apart from other companies is the knowledge of what Millennials & Gen-Z consumers look for in a creative service: A fast, reliable, affordable and authentic experience.

I’m most proud of being able to inspire people from around the world on outfit ideas. People will reference a post of mine and tell me that it came out fire. Business is great but inspiring someone feels even better.

What I want readers to know about Amare Fidem Styling is that I truly care about you being more confident after your service. I want to leave people better than how I found them. This is ministry for me.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in church so about 97% of my life revolved around practices, choir anniversaries, and attending 55 services on one Sunday, lol.

Moving a lot in my younger days definitely allowed me to know a lot of people but I’ve always been an introvert. I was either somewhere reading, writing/singing songs or dancing.
