Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Fleming-Hamlin.
Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Currently 37 years old. I was born and raised in Long Island New York, at the age of 21 I enrolled in college to gain my degree in Culinary Arts in Long Island, NY. After graduation and working a few years in restaurants in New York and the death of my Beloved Grandmother I decided that I wanted a change and took my talents to the big city of Atlanta, GA to start my business as a personal chef. I believe that my multiracial family contributes to my personal style of cooking. As a chef, I use my Puerto Rican, Jamaican and Native American descent and create revamped ethnic cuisines. I love connecting through the food I prepare for each client I cooks for. As a Creative Chef, I believe in inclusiveness, rooted in integrity. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Creating the Business was actually smooth, the struggles came in when you’re trying to create ways to prove to others how your business is different from the other business that do the same thing you do. What makes you different from the rest? So my struggle along the way was only to prove my authenticness of creativity and trying to market in an area like Atlanta that is saturated with so many chefs from different backgrounds.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most proud of being able to take a client’s wants and needs and creating a menu, event or private dinner for their budget. I feel what sets me apart from others is that I am not only passionate about what I do but I am doing something at a reasonable price. I’m going to go out of my way to give a price that is not overpriced.
