Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Knowles Blake.
Hi Savannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in Nassau, Bahamas moved to Miami FL just my mother and I until our little family grew into a family of four. My mom and my two younger sisters and I went all through school not knowing at the moment I was an immigrant or should I say illegal immigrant; my documents had expired when I was nine years old and my other two sisters was Americans finished High school and thinking I was going off to college change my life when my mother told me I had two optional stuff to get straight or return home. Me only knowing America has home took it as a joke.
Fast forward!!
I started braiding my mom’s hair at the age of six until my mother got pregnant and welcomed another girl. I grew upbraiding my sister’s hair and from than on another sister to friends but it was something I never took serious. Never seen doing hair as a career. 2019 I experienced one of the worst things could happen to someone that I wouldn’t wish on anyone, which was met ICE Immigration. Got out of immigration with even more baggage on my husband after getting in debt with all the lawyer fees and waiting two years at home just thought to myself, I have to find something to do that can help my family. I seen hair was always a topic on fb as in people having to beg to spend their money because they was always booked so I send that Knotless was very popular in today’s Society so I got my daughter head doll and went on YouTube and practiced the whole day. A month later, I find myself doing Knotless and booking what I would have called a lot for someone just starting. I remember doing small Knotless any length for $100 booked up tired but it was nothing but God. A year later, I went from doing one head a day to up to four heads a day and my family is where we want to be. I thank my clients and support team daily because of it wasn’t for them telling me you got it and sharing and trusting me, I would have my brand name. Now I am a licensed business Savvy’s House of Touch and my specialty is Knotless. I love doing hair and I plan or the next year after school to open my own salon doing variety of things. I been working on the wig industry in much more to come but I tell anybody I love to see the braiders I look up to tell me I’m there and keep my passion because it only gets better; my braids are only the beginning. My story is what makes me strong.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I would never say that there are days when the books are completely empty and I just continue to post my work and pray and the beginning of the week, I have a schedule full or days I felt like I couldn’t spend time with my family and I was just so tired but I still push because I know how it feels to be stood up. There’s so much comes with the hair business. Pros and cons.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do braids such as Knotless, feed ins, and scalp braids but my specialty is Knotless. I am proud of when I look back and see how far from my practice and continuing to push myself how my work has truly improved. What sets me apart is all I hear is I make all my clients feel like they are welcome; it’s not just about the money. I talk to them; I communicate with them not just about hair or business; I try to support everyone’s businesses.
Any big plans?
I plan on expanding my business and braid aside from braiding, I plan on making machine sew wigs and installing wigs and selling my own hair brand and opening my line of products, and treating natural hair.
