Conversations with Milliana Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milliana Jackson.

Hi Milliana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been into the beauty industry. I went to beauty school right out of high school; it was great my focus was hair, shortly after I noticed my hands were hurting a lot so I stopped doing hair and I actually hated doing makeup in beauty school. I worked a regular job and two years passed by and one of my friends always used to do her makeup so nice she said she learned from YouTube so I started watching videos so I can do my own makeup. About six months later, I started practicing on my friends. I was doing $30 faces in my bedroom in Oakland, CA. Fast forward today I moved to ATL and now I’ve been doing makeup for six years. I’ve done so many faces, I’ve taught classes I have virtual classes that do amazing and now I’m working on an Ebook.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When I first moved to ATL, I had zero clients. I also moved here December of 2019 right before Covid hit. I was so stressed out because I couldn’t do makeup and I had only enough money saved for about five months of rent so in April, I got a job at Amazon and I hated it but I did what needed to be done. Good thing ATL opened faster than other places. I started putting myself out there and by July, I was fully booked every month. I quit that job and I’ve been doing great for myself

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artist/influencer. I’m known for my flawless natural beats (millymademe) and then I’m another person because I’m known for influencing on my personal page (milliana). I’m super proud of millymademe, that is my baby. I’ve put in so much into my business and it’s still growing. I set myself apart from others because I do me. When I first moved to ATL I was told I don’t do makeup heavy enough and it definitely discouraged me but I kept doing things how I wanted and now everyone loves a natural glam. Always do what makes you comfy and don’t worry about beauty standards, because there is no standard to beauty.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Instagram helps, that’s where I brand myself.
