Today we’d like to introduce you to Arno Landry .
Hi Arno , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Senior liberal study major at North Carolina A&T located in Greensboro, NC. Originally born in Cameroon in the middle of Africa & came to America to pursue my dreams and graduate college and make my late mom and dad proud, I am the oldest of two siblings whom I help take care off and support their goals and need. My passion for cutting began when I was 17 years old and always wanted to feel connected with people and bring the joy out of them or happiness out of them, although I didn’t have the right tools to begin cutting I had somewhat of a support system who believed in me and my dreams. My first year in college in fall 2018 I started expanding my cutting business to attract more clientele so I started offering homeless people free cuts out of courtesy and love, but being each cut I was trying to improve myself and my business each time. Being a beginner barber was not easy at all for me because people often judge you and don’t believe in you so you start to have second thoughts about why you started the business but through tough times, they is a brighter day.
Growing up, my mom always used to say “Rome wasn’t built in one day” meaning whatever you want and believe in life, you have to work for it and earn it, we don’t believe in hands out where I come from so that’s why I love cutting, I love competition and the hustle behind it. Over the years of practicing and countless cutting I can say my business has grew big time over the year and I wouldn’t name myself as the best barber at NCAT but I think I do fit in the category of one off the best barber at my school and shout out to all the other barbers hustling. My biggest dream is to open up to five shops in five different states especially starting with my origin hometown of dc then my school where I have received a lot of love and support from. I would say having your own business is a great challenge because you have to put your customer first and understand their standpoint is not always about money when you do something you love. I can’t wait to see where I am in the next five years hopefully in my own shop or hopefully signed as a private barber for an agency or basketball payer for rapper but I will let God be the judge of that and whatever he has in store for me I’ll be grateful. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being a beginner barber WAS NOT easy at all for me because people often judge you and don’t believe in you so you start to have second thoughts about why you started the business but through tough times, they is a brighter day. Some days I wasn’t so lucky as the others it would be days I will have one client, some days 0 for maybe 3-4 days but I never lost faith or gave up on my dream because I knew this is what I wanted to do but is saying that Growing up my Mom always used to say ” Rome wasn’t built in one day” meaning whatever you want and believe in life you have to work for it and earned it, we don’t believe in hands out where I come from so that’s why I love cutting, I love competition and the hustle behind it. Over the years of practicing and countless cutting, I can say my business has grew big time over the year and is still growing but there is always room for improvement and how I can better myself in certain aspects.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My social media platform has not always been the best or where it needs to be but I’ve worked for every blessing in my life to get me to where I am today, I use my Instagram/social media account to inspire people and make people laugh and that platform has given me the opportunity to be a content creator with Instagram and my page average and amount of 40-50,000 people as insights and I am also my own personal chef so people love when I post my cooking because I do reels to engage with them and post it so that’s fun. I would say my specialties is cooking but I love cutting more than anything and I love engagement so I always try to do best in everything I do. I would often ask my clients/friends/followers how I can better myself or how I can improve myself. I am Proud of who I am today and whom I’ve become because Not having both your parents throughout life to guide is not easy and I am glad I am the perfect example for my sister and love ones and I will continue the legacy and graduating this fall and setting the example for my siblings to follow. One thing that sets me apart from others is my work ethic and support I can be very competitive in my head but I love hustling and working and I love supporting others doesn’t matter if you support me or not, I’ll always support you.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My high school coach/ second mom Ms. Casson and my uncle Mr. Mitchell who has raised me as his own is definitely the MVP also in my life and of course my girlfriend Deasia, my friends from Coppin States whom one is an Olympian name Joseph and I wish him best of luck in his career, my aunty Ramata who was always shed light and advice into my life, my friends from school and home whom I call my brothers and mostly my friends from central Africa are all apart of my strong support system that I have in this world including my sister so they deserve major credit for who I’ve become today in my life and how I can always improve my self and just carry my self with a better image. My school closet friends, my day one clients who believed in me and supported me those are the true MVP and deserve much credit for all their support.
