Today we’d like to introduce you to D’anae Grandberry.
Hi D’anae, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I discovered my love for photography when I was younger on Easter Day, I asked my mom if I could play with her camera. I went outside and I was taking pictures of everything but one of those photos stood out amongst the rest of them, it was a photo of my dad holding my niece on our slide with the most perfect sun glare beaming down.
From there, my love grew and I began as a freshman in high school taking pictures at our FCCLA events.
I knew that photography was the path I wanted to take. In July of 2016 Q’s-Vue Photography was born.
Being from a small town in Nebraska there wasn’t many locations that other photographers didn’t already use. My goal was to always stand out and it was difficult because every photographer shared all the same locations. My trip to New York City at a young age showed me that I wanted more than Nebraska had to offer me.
Flash forward two years ago in the midst of a pandemic, I decided to make my big move and start fresh in Atlanta, GA.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a bumpy ride! Trying to restart my business in a new city and a larger one at that has been extremely difficult but very rewarding.
Though I do not have many clients at the moment, I am constantly networking and practicing my craft every day.
My business has been slowly growing since moving and I have decided to go a new route with my business, shifting my focus to boudoir style photography. I am very excited to see what comes next.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer. I specialize in many different styles however I have just begun to rebrand and zone in on boudoir photography.
Prior to this change, I was known for my landscapes and moon shots, I did graduation photos and many more.
I am very proud of the fact I took the leap to make a big move, I am proud of rebranding my business and helping people fall back in love with themselves. I am proud of the work I have accomplished and will continue to do.
To me what sets me apart is the fact that I can identify with my clients not only of course because of being a woman but a plus-size woman as well. I will always try to do my best to make my clients feel comfortable, confident, sexy, no matter your size or gender, also to make sure we have a great time. Honestly, my work is less about me and more about my clients and them feeling good.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The closest thing I had to a mentor was and is my mom, she loved taking photos as well. When I was growing up, she always had a camera in her hand. The best way in my opinion to finding a mentor is finding someone that has done or is still doing something you would like to do, sit down and break bread.
As far as networking, the route that has worked best for me outside of social media is making friends, taking pictures of friends, and word of mouth.
