Meet Heather Franklin of Violet Aster Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Franklin.

Hi Heather, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for photography, although my dream when I was younger was to be a wildlife photographer- I wanted to travel the world and take my camera places everyday people never get to go. But, that all changed when I became a mom. In 2018 I had the sweetest baby boy and in 2019, I started my business so that I could support the both of us. Here I am 3 years later with a successful business doing mostly Weddings and family’s. I’ve worked with so many people over the last few years that my clients are some of my closest friends and some have become family.

I can’t wait to see where this journey takes my little family and I.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, definitely not. I’ve had a lot of person struggles along the way but my biggest one is my fear of failure. Although, I believe my fear of failure has also pushed me to never give up.

From starting out as a self-taught photographer and being coached and inspired by learning from Paige Cole (Cole Creative Co) and Elizabeth Dean (Elizabeth Taylor Photography) to figuring out what my editing style should be, things haven’t always been smooth sailing.

I’ve had many nights I stayed up late crying or with anxiety that my clients aren’t happy with the album they received and most the time, I wake up the next morning to them telling me they loved them! I think we all are our biggest critic for sure.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Violet Aster Photography?
Most people ask me- “what does your name mean?!” Violet is my birth flower and Aster is my son’s birth flower! Family is definitely something that is so important to me so when you work with me, I treat you and your kiddos (if you have any) like family.

I’m still trying to figure what I’m known for, but I would like to think it’s how I comment on a personal level with my clients during our sessions, I love to do family/mommy and me sessions more than anything because of this! But I’ve photographed almost everything you can think of, from labor and delivery to weddings and boudoir sessions, and I’ve loved every bit of it!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Definitely take the risk. The higher the risk, the higher the reward. I took a risk back in November of 2021 when I quit my full-time job to rely on photography full time, being a single mom that was a huge, huge risk for me. But it forced me to put myself out there and go after what I want!
