Today we’d like to introduce you to The New Groove. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The New Groove started when three musical minds (Dj OloGi, Rravii and KeepitSwain) decided to join forces and create a showcase at the 992 gallery near the West end in 2020. After much deliberation, we came to name the showcase “The new groove showcase” where we debuted our first collaboration “passion” it was such a hit and the vibe was so right we decided to keep the groove going and The New Groove was born. Since then, we’ve released our first full-length studio album “Midnight Arcadia” as well as individual albums,”WednesdayThursday”, “Vibrate” and “Funkaphide”. Over the course of three years, we have built a musical powerhouse and label, Jetlag Entertainment LLC where we pride ourselves on creating real, original feel good music including a cast of amazing live musicians as well as creating groundbreaking ways for artists like us to dominate the marketing, business and e-commerce side of music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every artist will face adversity, let alone a group of three artists and we are no exception. However the beautiful thing about the new groove is the amazing and organic chemistry we have in and out of the studio as well as on and off the stage. The biggest thing we keep in the foreground is Respect for eachother and the music. With three uniquely different styles, we do find ourselves coming to some creative differences but in the end, we understand that those very differences make our art special. Even through the pandemic, while it was very difficult on everyone gigging artists like ourselves had to get very creative in making ways for ourselves and coming up with ideas to keep ourselves sharp and our fans satisfied.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The New Groove is a soul-powered trio and our sound falls somewhere in the middle of funk, electric soul and hip hop. I’d say our specialties are the original productions of the amazing Dj OloGi, he’s an incredible piano player both live and in the studio and the coolest part about his productions is that no samples are needed. We invite real outstanding musicians to grace our tacks and the outcome is always a great, original vibe that we can truly call our own. Another specialty and thing that sets us apart are the singing, rapping and songwriting skills of KeepitSwain and Rravii. Keep itSwain aka ‘Swain’ is definitely one of the sharpest mcs you’ll ever meet. His bars are undeniable and profound and his singing matches. Speaking of singers, the hidden weapon of The New Groove is Rravii her sweet and rich harmonies and flowing songwriting gives the sound the smooth silkiness that will lock you in and leave you asking “damn who is that?” One thing we are most proud of just how much music we have made. Though not all released, we have made an array of songs reaching into the 300s and that’s just from 2019 to now. The New Groove is A true musical machine.
What makes you happy?
Whether it be in the studio or on stage performing makes us happy. Some of the best times have been when we have the opportunity to share our music with new people.
