Community Highlights: Meet Lakeya Collins of Roberts Angels Scrubs+

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeya Collins.

Hi Lakeya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2016, I experienced every parent’s worst nightmare my 16 years old son Robert drowned at a nearby lake in Augusta, Georgia while swimming with friends. Robert used to iron my nursing uniforms before. In 2017 I began having dreams of my son visiting me telling me to start designing my own brand of wrinkle-free uniforms and name the brand Robert’s Angels. In 2020 I finally launched the brand after years of doubt. The scrubs became an instant hit with my coworkers and the word soon spread. I began to outgrow my house with the demand of scrubs and opened my first Brick & Mortar in 2021. We are now looking to expand in the Augusta Mall by the end of 2022. We have also launched our own brand of children lifevest and offer cpr training classes at our location 6 days a week with free water safety classes included.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening my business has been a work in progress. Not easy at all. As a mother and full-time psychiatric nurse and no previous business experience. I am learning by trial and error.

As you know, we’re big fans of Roberts Angels Scrubs+. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I design my own scrub wear for Healthcare Workers. I also sell other medical supplies such as blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, scrub caps and anything a Healthcare worker would be able to use.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love my city of Augusta because it’s a medical town. Meaning majority of the career opportunity are in the medical field. That makes having scrub store in this location an absolute blessing.
