Life & Work with Charrod Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charrod Taylor.

Hi Charrod, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up Miami, FL one of five in a single-parent household. Even though I wasn’t the oldest, I had to assume the position due to circumstances outside of my control. Playing the role of oldest sibling put me in a position of leadership without a male to model behind in the household. Being one of four young men, we needed guidance, more than what my mother was able to provide on her own. During that time, she enlisted the support of my teachers, community and family members who reinforced the values that my mother required of her sons. Without that uplift, I doubt if I would be where I am today. In the spirit of paying it forward, I want to be a support to young males who aspire to something greater.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a challenge, but nothing more than anyone else has faced and not out of my control to overcome. The biggest challenge so far is finding partners and financing for some of our projects especially with the emergence of the pandemic.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an educator of fourteen years and have always strived to support students in their personal journey. I started InspHigher 2 Motivate as an organization to provide support in the areas of scholarship, community outreach and mentoring. I also am a community coach for any sports leagues my own sons participate in and I am most proud at the moment of watching them succeed in the things they love doing. The thing that sets me apart from others is my story and how it makes me who I am in my ability to relate to the youth.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I use this now but I can remember my mom taking me and my siblings to drive in. Our car was small but it was big with love.
