Hi Kaila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew I would be an entrepreneur but I would have never imagined that I would start a skincare business. The idea to start this business actually came to me in a dream last March. A spirit told me that I would start this business and it would be successful and help many people. The next morning, I registered the business with the state of Georgia and the rest was history.
It took months of research and trial and error to get this business off the ground. Since I make and test everything myself, I wanted to make sure I was using nothing but the best ingredients possible. Once I finalized the products, it was time to build my website and start creating engaging content for social media. I wanted this business to be the truest representation of me so I knew I wanted it to be vibrant and colorful. I believe this is what has attracted many people to my business. It’s colorful and different. I launched my business November 2021. With the help of social media and word of mouth, I was able to sell out in just four days. Since then, my business has been growing consistently. I have been able to release several new products and I am currently working on more products to release in the future.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is all about problem-solving. Everyday you will be presented with some type of problem big or small and it is up to you on how you react. Are you going to fall apart or are you going to figure it out? Before I launched my business, I was clueless about business taxes and bookkeeping and I made a lot of costly mistakes. Instead of stressing over it, I hired an accountant. Since then, my accountant has been such an asset to my business. As my business grows, so do my responsibilities and having someone I trust to handle such an important aspect of my business has been a lifesaver.

Pink Pear Skincare is an all-natural, plant-based, cruelty-free skincare brand curated specifically for people with sensitive skin. We offer a variety of vibrant body butters, body scrubs, face and body oils. All of our products are hand-crafted in small batches to ensure that each and every one of our customers gets nothing but the best. I am most proud of the feedback from our customers when they use our products. I recently had a customer tell me that she had been struggling to find an all-natural, unscented body moisturizer for her autistic son and that our body butter (Basic B.) was the only thing that would work for him. I had another customer tell me how much she loved our products and that she appreciated the effort we put into packing her order. Those types of comments may seem small but they really mean everything to me. I don’t want to just make pretty products, I want people to know that I truly care.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
In the beauty industry, I have noticed that black women are often an afterthought when it comes to creating products for our unique skin needs. The beauty of our skin is rarely celebrated. I wanted to create a product that would challenge that. So I created our Black Girl Magic body butter. I was a little nervous to release this product because I didn’t want anyone to feel alienated. But then I remembered that before I am a business owner, I am first a black woman. And I have seen and experienced what it is like to feel underrepresented and simply not cared about. Since our launch, our Black Girl Magic body butter has became our # 1 selling product. We ship over 70 jars a month and so many black women have shared with me how amazing it is to use products for us by us. It is a great feeling and I am so glad I believed in myself enough to release such an amazing product.
