Life & Work with Delyn Latnie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delyn Latnie.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started to write music in high school as a hobby and became inspired to do so after listening to the Lil Wayne’s “The Carter 2”. In late 2009 after I graduated high school, I began to learn how to record. During this time, I was living in Fort Myers, FL. Over the next few years, I got the opportunity to work in event promoting and connected with other music professionals. A lot of my music at the time wasn’t original but I did land a few remixes and freestyles on local segments of 105.5 the beat. In 2012 I decided to move to Queens, NY to work in a bigger city with more opportunities. I learned quickly that one I didn’t know really knew the business of the music industry and that this wasn’t an easy career path. Still in love with the mixtape era I wasted a lot of time recording freestyles and remixes for datpiff. In the midst of writing to all of those beats and taking the train to the studio in the snow I did become better as an MC. I also found out that I was willing to use my resources and creativity to climb the ladder. At one point, I even bought a few iPods and loaded them with my music. I handed those out to few different industry professionals one being DJ Envy. Envy was very cool and professional but nothing came of me giving away free iPods. Wanting to do anything to succeed in music I ultimately got into a few situations where I was incarcerated and music became a low priority. After regaining my freedom in 2017, I decided to move back to Fort Myers, FL and began working with one of my best friends Darren Gooden. Darren helped me to become more efficient with my craft and encouraged me to learn the ins and outs of the industry every day. In the beginning of 2018, we release our first single “That’s My Word” with co-production from Jimmy Long. Since that time, I’ve released 11 more singles with the goal of inspiring every one of my listeners to be the best version of themselves. In 2020 I began to shoot a lot more visuals and learned how to advertise on YouTube. Two of my singles “Couch Surf” and “All I Know” have combined for 80,000 views. Also in 2020, I felt it was time to leave Fort Myers again but this time for Atlanta. Since I’ve been in Atlanta, I’ve focused on creating as much music as possible so I can exponentially grow my catalog. Last month on September 20th, I did a soft release of my debut EP “Motivation For Sale” making it available only on Band Camp and Audiomack. Currently, the project has almost 10,000 streams on Audiomack and is set to be released on all streaming platforms on October 18th. I also released a new video with project titled “Figure It Out” which has garnered almost 25,000 views in the first two weeks. At this point, I’m learning and executing better. What I care about is motivating people to be their best and never give up. Through ups and downs, I can see the light at the tunnel and I want any person who comes across my music and my story to know they can also make progress and learn no matter. All they have to do is believe in their desired outcome.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was living in Florida my main obstacle was the culture doesn’t isn’t made for an independent artist. A lot of the people don’t know the business of the music industry and many other “artists” or “producers” don’t realize the work it takes on a day to day basis to build a career independently. I constantly came across people who never wanted to work and were hobbyists. While I lived in NY, I was in the right place but my life wasn’t set up for me to really strive. I was living check to check trying to do my best to figure it all out. I would say my current obstacle today would be funding. I have develop strategies that are working on a micro level that I feel will propel me to a higher level when I obtain more funding. Like any small business I’m working with what I have to attract investors. I just need to find them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hip-hop artist and I’m known for making motivational/positive music.

I’m most proud of the growth I have been experiencing since I first started. My youtube channel has over 100,000 views and I am growing every day.

What sets me apart from others in my industry is my commitment to doing things the right way. I realize there aren’t any shortcuts and I’m happy with taking everything one day at a time. A lot of people get caught up in followers and streams. I just want to build a fan base that will provide longevity.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Darren Gooden is a close friend of mine who is also my executive producer. We work closely together with everything regarding my career.

Smart Boy Beatz is also one of my main producers and my mixing and mastering engineer. We’ve developed a close relationship since I’ve moved to Atlanta and has played a pivotal role in bettering my sound.
