Rising Stars: Meet Duncan Daniels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Duncan Daniels.

Hi Duncan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a singer/songwriter and music producer. My story is very interesting however here is the short version. I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised for the most part in Nigeria. I started out making music in the early 2000s as a music producer working in Port Harcourt City Nigeria, I then moved back to Boston to study Music Production at Berklee College of Music. My first Album titled “I don Taya” was released in 2006 and since then, I have been putting out music. Some of my earlier known works in the Afro music scene was a track titled “Like This” ft MI (2010), around the same time I moved to New York City. I have also been nominated multiple times at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards. My 5th Studio album and 1st full Afro-Beats project “Afroeclectic” was released on February 14th of 2020, a week before the pandemic lockdowns began. Since then I have spent all of 2021 releasing singles every quarter building up to my upcoming 6th studio album titled “Songs of Limitless Optimism” set to be released on August 12th, 2022.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth journey, I have had to build everything I’ve done till today on my own with limited resources, self investing for a very long time and still managing all aspects of my music business with not as much external Support but I believe it’s worth it because I’m focused on the endgame.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m proud of the effort I have put into my upcoming project. I know I’ve really gone in and brought out my very best and that’s something I’m happy and proud of. The most stand-out element of this project is that there are no other featured artists on this project, and I showcase my ability as an artist to stand on my own and perform these records the way I envisioned them.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t quit your day job. Have a solid financial fallback. believe in yourself even when others don’t.
