Oscar Heredia, founder of Nova Star Media, specializes in visual storytelling through diversity, representation and human art. With over 6 years of extensive experience in the entertainment industry as a dancer, actor, model, spokesperson, and director he brings a unique perspective to the field. Capturing life’s precious moments with creativity and artistry. Oscars’ works are based on shining your light. His passion for storytelling, media, and self-expression brings a fresh perspective and ability to bring your ideas and visions to life. Outside of media, Oscar is a humanitarian. He is an advocate and spokesperson for Vitiligo and human trafficking awareness. He is an international competitive latin dancer. From his own experiences and blending his passions, Oscar aims to create a global movement inspiring others to find and share their light.

Nova Star Media was founded in June 2021

Before Nova Star Media I was working in the corporate field as an account executive. I decided to pursue my own path and decided to quit my secure 9-5 job to pursue my dream as an artist and an entrepreneur. The thought of starting a media company came to me during the pandemic as I was exploring different art forms outside of dance. I started shooting with my iPhone 13 taking pictures in my mother’s house garage with close friends. I initially started to help save on dance expenses (photoshoot, promotion, etc). During my time in corporate, I used the funds to buy the proper equipment and tools I needed to get the ball rolling. I eventually came to the point where I could no longer stay in corporate. I took the leap of faith! It wasn’t picture-perfect. I struggled for the first 4-5 months. Learning the ins and outs of running a business but I grew through trial and error. For the first 4-5 months I worked as a part-time Uber Driver to help pay bills and invest into the business. My hard work eventually paid off as my work was started to be recognized locally and in the southeast region. I eventually stopped working as a part-time Uber driver in December 2021 as my business started to flourish. In March of 2022, I was joined by my sister (Sharai Heredia), as she is now co-owner/photographer of Nova Star Media making it a family business. We have been blessed and have now expanded into the NY market having two based locations. Now in NY and ATL.
Why I started Nova Star Media?
I’ve always had a passion for helping people and helping reach their dreams or goals. One of my greatest inspirations comes from God, my mother, my family, the culture and all the untold stories and visions of people. We live in a different time we now have the opportunity and power to take control of our own narratives, rewrite and leverage ourselves as well as the community to inspire positive change. Our ultimate goal at Nova Star Media ✨ is to help people shine their light #shineyourlight. We provide photography and videography services to capture your light, your light can be defined as an idea, vision, goal, a story, etc. We want to provide a platform to help leverage you and to help shine your light to the World. We have a very diverse clientele and portfolio ranging from weddings, corporate events, commercials, small business owners, entrepreneurs, personal brands, influencers, content creation, artists, interviews, documentaries, etc.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not.
I am self-taught so I’ve had a lot of trial and error and in my beginning stages I’ve had to work a lot of different jobs such as bartending, serving, uber eats and uber driving to pay off bills along with investing into Nova Star Media. But with the grace of God and the support of the community, I have been able to leave those jobs and do Nova Star Media full time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in photography and videography in ATL and now in New York. We are known for our diversity, versatility, and our creativity. We have an extensive background in the arts and professional world and are able to cater and fulfill the needs and vision of our clients. Our collective experience in different cultures and environments has helped us gain perspective and awareness that contributes to our overall service. We are known to be professional, personable, responsive, creative, genuine and unique. We are proud of all of our work, we make sure to give it our all in every project and make sure our clients get more than expected.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the energy, the kindness, food, creativity and the family-oriented the city can be. There’s so much talent and innovators striving to change the world.
The least thing I like about the city is the traffic, 400 and the limitations of the public transportation system.
