Hi Lia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During college, I worked as an intern for a regional accounting firm. I was hired by the firm after completing my undergrad. After four busy seasons, I made a career change and worked in government as a financial analyst. While working as a financial analyst, I began doing accounting for small businesses and acquaintances on the side. I started with three clients. Five years later, I decided to go into private accounting with a company in Metro Detroit while continuing to work on my side business. I relocated to the West Coast and was able to grow my business even more. In 2016, my family and I relocated to Metro Atlanta. Since I have lived in Georgia, my business has flourished! One thing that I have really enjoyed during my career is the vast amount of entrepreneurs and industries that I have been exposed to. I believe this exposure has helped me connect both professionally and personally to the clients of my business, Omniscience Tax & Accounting Services LLC.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road! One of the biggest challenges that I faced was converting from “side business” to running a profitable business. Implementing the proper workflows, processes and procedures for a profitable business can be difficult as a business owner. I think it is because it is constantly evolving. It is not a one-time or one size fits all process.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Omniscience provides virtual bookkeeping, virtual accounting, tax preparation/planning and financial coaching services to small businesses and solopreneurs. I became a small business owner to educate! My career has led me into many areas of accounting and finance including public accounting, compliance, individual and business tax, financial analyses, private and fund accounting. Along the way, I have been exposed to many industries, business types and owners. I have acquired a vast amount of knowledge that I am able to incorporate into my business and serve my clients. The small business community is important to our economy and one of the challenges faced by small businesses is the management of funds and tax compliance.
Omniscience means “all knowing”. I purposely choose this name to emphasize that I want the clients that I serve to KNOW the financial position of their business. I do not just provide deliverables to my clients, I develop lasting relationships and provide them with the knowledge to take along with them rather they stay with me or not.
Many small business owners are able to run their business but when it comes to the accounting and financial aspects of their business they simply don’t know what they don’t know. This hinders them from setting short-term and long-term goals like developing products, offering new services or even take a vacation. My clients are small business owners and/or solopreneurs that have been in business for at least one year and ready to know what their business is doing from a financial aspect. I meet their needs by taking them and their business goals seriously; patiently and thoroughly explaining things in a way that they’re able to understand.
My brand is results-driven and based on trust – I am proud of that. My clients come to me with a goal and unsure/unaware how they will meet that goal. I listen to them, learn their business and develop a tailored strategy. My clients are always surprised when they hit their goals because what was thought of as impossible is made possible. The results and the authentic relationships that are cultivated with clients lead to referrals. Clients refer my services to colleagues, friends/family and acquaintances.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Relatability is the quality most important to the success of my business. I understand what it feels like to have a dream, to take a chance on that dream. It’s a huge leap of faith that should be taken seriously. I truly want my clients to excel and that is evident in my services.
