Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Harris.
Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 3rd generation barber. Where I currently co-own our family barbershop. We have two locations here in Macon, GA to help serve our community. I also open up the first black-owned shopping plaza in Macon, GA which is located in the historic district of Greenwoodbottom. We currently house four black-owned businesses in this location. This area once was thriving with successful black-owned businesses and this is also where my grandfather started our family barbershop in 1965. I am currently in the forefront in bringing this once thriving location for blacks back to life. I am also in the midst of opening up an outdoor bar with my wife Nadiyah Harris in this location. We are also preparing to add two more storefront locations so hopefully, other black business owners can call Greenwoodbottom their home. We just want to connect the culture to the culture!! I almost forgot to mention in the shopping plaza I open a clothing store named Nappy Hustle clothing store. Where we concentrate on having black-owned designers and collaborations in the store. I also have my own line in the store (Nappy Hustle)
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life that is worth it is easy. But if it’s worth it, you don’t quit easily. Your gonna have trials and tribulations in life in whatever you’re doing you just gotta keep going.
As you know, we’re big fans of Nappy hustle clothing store / GreenWood Bottom Shopping plaza. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
In both of my businesses, I concentrate on the culture of actually winning not just being a prop. Your actually buying our culture from our culture. It’s a win-win!! In Greenwood Bottom Shopping plaza we currently have a smoothie shop/ clothing store/ upscale salon/ phlebotomy lab. It’s a lively place to come and kick it at.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
