Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakesia Felder.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was in my third year of teaching and I wanted to earn extra streams of income. In 2018, I invested my income tax money into my hair company. That investment, led to me starting my cleaning service later that year. My third year as a business owner, I opened up my first storefront in Warner Robins, GA and released my first children’s book in January 2022. Dedication, prayer, and hard work played a valuable role in my success, which is why I mentor and hold business consultations with rising business owners.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I struggled with my customers, having inventory, and funding to maintain my businesses. Along the way, you lose so many family and friends when you get serious about your goals/future. However, I always kept the faith and realized that everyone is not going to understand your passion and journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The Lucy Felder Hair Collection is a line of hair extensions that caters to all ethnicities. I started my hair business to make women feel beautiful, boost confidence, and empower women.
Luxury Homes Cleaning Service was started for me to give back to the community and also, open up employment opportunities for at-risk youth, people with disabilities, and individuals that needed a second chance at life. I took on many cleaning contracts to help give individuals hope for a better life.
“My Voice Matters” children’s book was written to give children a sense of empowerment and also, to give parents to see things differently from a child’s perspective. My children’s book gives families hope, explores points of view, and positive parenting.
What sets my business apart from others is the experience and exceptional customer service that my clients receive from me. My clients will literally come into my store to make a purchase and we have deep conversations and venting sessions. I truly love all of my customers.
What matters most to you?
Breaking generational curses, giving my daughter a chance to brag/be happy about her mother, and living in my passion. I truly love my businesses and investments. My goal is to make my daughter proud and to leave something to her when I’m no longer here.
