Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Wilson.
Hi Sophia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out as the first born child to a famous stand-up comic and a Mediterranean oil painter, who met in Phenix City, Alabama. Then G-d took me all over the place. Los Angeles for about six months. Couldn’t stand the air pollution so we moved back to Atlanta. Graduated high school at 16 with a GED, so I could study Acting in New York City at American Academy of Dramatic Arts, then came back home again to Atlanta after two years. I started out in the real world working at the Punchline Comedy Club, back when it was still in Sandy Springs across from what was Cafe 290. I was 18 serving alcohol I couldn’t drink to people laughing in the dark. Those were some of my best times. Transporting comedians from the Double Tree to the club in my mother’s Volvo, saving Dave Atell from obsessed fans, accidentally insulting Joe Rogan, twice. Eventually, a new wave came into my atmosphere and I high tailed it over seas and wound up performing improv comedy for a few years in Tel Aviv for an English speaking theater company called the Stage. But like kudzu, I always came back to Atlanta. And that’s about the time I got into the film business with my brother, Ari Wilson, and developed our film company SOPHARI PICTURES. Then as time rolled on I got married to my director of photography, William T Fleming III, and created Gufo Productions together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hell no its not been smooth, lol. That’s what’s been so cool about the ride. Struggle builds character, without it your just a slice of cheese. Adversity is what creates the fire inside a person to change. I struggled in the beginning with motivation to do what I wanted even though no one else believed in me. I had to push myself very hard, across oceans even, to find the courage to just say “F%ck it, I’m gonna do it anyway.” And finally I did, I just started to do it myself, and eventually the people who believed in me came. I didn’t even have to look very hard once I started writing, performing, taking initiative to create whatever it was I wanted to manifest.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to read autobiographies and biographies. I’ve always lived with the burning question of ” How did you get to where you are?” Reading and listening to other people’s story can help us find the story in ourself.
