Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Terry.
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Taylor Terry and I am a mixed media artist. I have been creating since I was a kid. Arts and crafts was always something that truly grounded me. Sketching and doodling any chance I could get. Wanting to explore just about all mediums, I dove into just about anything I could get supplies for. Throughout my childhood, I dabbled in sewing, sculpting, and even jewelry making. I began working with acrylic paint when I was in high school while in an AP art class and it quickly became my favorite medium. In these most recent years, I’ve continued to explore various different mediums to continue to grow into my personal art style. I am currently a 5th-grade teacher and the creative director for Free Life ATL. My newest passion being set design.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
By no means has the road been smooth! I have truly experienced quite a few twists and turns and times of creative block. I was just having a conversation with a friend about not going to art school being my biggest regret in life. Although I had a hard time balancing time for creating in the beginning of my teaching career, I have definitely enjoyed everything I have learned and gained from the profession. I do know that my future is leading me to doing art full time. I am making moves for that to be a reality. The journey continues.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My versatility is what I am most proud of. I love describing myself as a mixed media artist. As Masego would say “I do Everything”.

I hyper-fixate on a new medium every other month. I would say I am most known for my acrylic paintings, as I’ve been working with that medium the longest. I feel like in this part of my life I’m really trying to find MY style. I love texture and depth. I love for a flat canvas to look like it is popping out at you.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Trying new things is not bad and you won’t always be in a creative mood (and that is ok!). I miss when I used to have the drive to create for creativity’s sake. Not to sell or display, but to release! This past school year I had a lot of creative students. I made sure to encourage them to continue doodling, drawing what they see, cutting and pasting and expressing themselves.
