Meet Mya Alysia

Hi Mya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Heyyy, I’m Mya Alysia, The Media Maven, many know me as outgoing, silly, the life of the party, always exuding great energy, amazing personality, a talker, and so much more!I’m a graduate of THEE Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NC A&T), receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Multimedia Journalism.

I graduated with the Highest G.P.A in my major concentration, Multimedia Journalism, and graduated in the top 10 percent in my major, my educational background guided me on my career path, and I must say my degree is A Degree Well Worth It!

My journey as a Multimedia Journalist, Media Personality, On-Air Personality, and/or Media Host, started when I was young.
Wheww where do I start?!

I had an eye for the media and entertainment industry while growing up watching 106 & Park with hosts, Terrence J and Rocsi Diaz, listening to Ryan Cameron & Elle Duncan, and Frank Ski & Wanda on The People’s Station V-103, Atlanta’s hottest radio station, as well as many other media personalities.

I was so interested and entertained, and would look forward to listening to radio shows every day as I went to school. I’m like this is something I can see myself doing, I’m already a people person, a talker, and a natural-born personable girl, so what would better suit me than to pursue a career in Journalism and Mass Communication.

In elementary school, they had auditions for the Morning Announcer for the fifth graders and you know your girl had to audition, and BOOM, I got the spot, like why wouldn’t I? LOL! From elementary school, my excitement for media progressed to middle school where I did the morning announcements as well.

From then on I was The Media Maven!

It all came with ease for me, everyone could see it in me, which was amazing, and I knew this is definitely my calling. Funny thing is, I was a great debater too, so part of me wanted to pursue a career in law as an attorney, so my mom forced me to attend law school camp at UGA, University of Georgia, LOL.

Shoutout to you mommy, because that showed me that was NOT FOR ME! It was so muchhh work, call me lazy but definitely not my ministry (LOL), after attending the law camp, it hit me, Journalism and Mass Communication is the career goal for me.

I followed my heart’s desires and after high school attended THEE #1 HBCU, NC A&T, SHOUTOUT TO MY ALMA MATER!

AGGIE BORN & AGGIE BRED!

Throughout my collegiate career, I was granted so many amazing opportunities. I was an on-air personality for my school’s radio station WNAA 90.1 THE VOICE, interned at 102 JAMZ, ABC Action News, FOX News, and was a cohort in the HBCU IN LA program.

My HBCU mentors, especially GAIL WIGGINS, friends, and family have helped me get to where I am today. I wish I could write a short section for everyone who has shown me so much love and support, but chile that would be a book.

JUST KNOW THEY KNOW THERE SUPPORT DOES NOT GO UNNOTICED AND IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

ESPECIALLY, MY MOMMY, SHE IS MY MOM-AGER, MY EVERYTHING!

She is the brains behind my success and just figuring out any and everything for me. She is the one behind me starting my own business, my own brand, THE MYA ALYSIA WAY, and when I tell you she doesn’t play about me. The goal is to keep me elevating and pushing for what I want.

I can’t forget about my road manager, LOL, my dad, he wants what is best for me, my HYPE MAN AND CAMERAMAN… ALWAYS MAKING SURE EVERYONE KNOWS MY NAME.

My sister, who puts up with me, allows me to bounce ideas around with her, and gives me the necessary critique I need with love but true honesty, she is my go-to and always available to me regardless of her schedule, she calls me, “BOSS BABY”!

Covid forced me to be creative and start my own podcast, I’m not limited to being a host on my podcast, I’m also a Media (Host) at events and it brings me so much joy to celebrate others and share informational stories with the masses! The journey is just beginning and I’m so excited for what more is in store and to come for me!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road, if anybody says anything is easy then they are in denial. It’s always going to be highs and lows, but it’s really how you bounce back that will determine how successful you will be!

In the media and entertainment industry, there are no handouts you have to prove yourself and work your BUTT off. In college, I would always hear that my major was so easy, but baby no it isn’t! I would like to see people in different professions try to land an internship with ESPN, NBC, and so many more. Yes, classes are easy, only because I had a true interest in my courses.

However, Get Out In The Field And Then Tell Me Your Thoughts.

You will hear No and you will hear Yes, but you can’t let the NO deter you, if every setback or hard time affects you you’ll never make it anywhere.

What I tell myself is what’s for me is for me, and what’s not is not and that really helps, and NO means NEXT OPPORTUNITY!

I truly believe everything that is meant for you will not pass you, so I try to look at struggles as a test, that the opportunity was not meant for me, and this is a part of the media territory.

Some struggles were and are being denied internships and opportunities, just really wondering how I’m going to get to where I want to be.

Creating and building a business is my biggest struggle, growing my baby (my podcast), pursuing my passion, my career, without having total control.

I’m a person that focuses on the future, so I think that is a big struggle, the unknown, not being able to control everything, I want to know everything and be in control, but to be honest when I think about it everything is unfolding at a surprisingly fast pace for me.

There is really no need to stress or be down and out. I’m so appreciative that I have a strong support system that instills affirmations within me, believes in me and uplifts me.

THE ONLY WAY IS UP FOR ME!

I am a Multimedia Journalist, a Podcast Host, and a Media Personality that does it all, I specialize in and love to host media and entertainment events, and I conduct interviews.As of right now, I am the host of “MYA ALYSIA’S PODCAST” a video podcast on Apple Podcasts and YouTube that premiers live video interviews of your favs, from the up-and-coming influencers, our current-day creators, to known artists and actors, everyone is a celebrity on my platform.

My interviews are informative, entertaining, humourous, and exude good vibes only, I spotlight my guest(s) endeavors, ventures, and accomplishments, ideas, products, music drops, etc., no topic is off-limits.

I love that I am able to connect with amazing people that are doing big things. I am known for being the host of my own show, I AM THEE MEDIA MAVEN AND A MEDIA MOGUL. The girl who does it all in the media and entertainment industry.

What sets me apart from others is just me as a PERSON. I’m able to talk to anyone with ease and make people feel comfortable, I make my interviewees feel special, they know they are in a safe, genuine space where they can share anything they want. Not everyone has that quality and I think it’s a blessing and gift from god. I am told all the time that my energy is so welcoming and I make people feel seen, heard, and comfortable.

Lastly, there are so many things I’m proud of, I could write a book, but what I’m most proud of is starting up my own business and not waiting for others to present me with opportunities. I’m going to go get it by any means necessary and the blessings keep coming!
