Daily Inspiration: Meet Makeda Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makeda Moore.

Makeda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a holistic health healer and community educator. As a child, I always had a desire to help others which drew me toward pursuing studies in medicine throughout college. Finally, in my 3rd year of college my innate curiosity for people, their personalities, and how they operated in the world came to the forefront. I was battling my own issues with trauma and social anxiety and I knew that finding the resolve for my issues would help me unlock the more of myself I always knew lied within myself. I also knew that the way to truly heal people and ultimately change the world wasnt through western medicine…it was through the spirit. So in 2013, I graduated undergrad from Georgia State University (after starting my studies at Alabama A& M University) with a degree in biological sciences to pursue a career in psychology. In 2015 at the age of 25, I started my PhD in clinical & health psychology at the University of Florida. I really didnt know what I was getting into. I was the only person in my family who’d ever pursued a doctorate degree… Well, the journey was the hardest and most fulfilling experience of my life. I studied hard, I failed, I succeeded, I cried, I laughed, I partied, all while juggling classes, research responsibilities, therapy patients, clinical rotations and my own mental health.

Throughout grad school, my social anxiety became even more of a pressing issue as I found myself avoiding social events that my heart desired to be at due to my fear of judgment. I felt like such a hypocrite to be sitting there encouraging my own therapy patients to heal their traumas, overcome their fears, and step into the beautiful life that they deserved…I was suffering but I still had a smile on my face so very few people knew how distressing my anxiety was at the time…Fortunately I had many great people in my corner. One random day a friend played a youtube video with the Marianne Williamson quote “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us….” and for some reason that ignited a fire in my spirit and from that moment on I was on a conscious journey of self healing and personal development. As I became healthier and happier I started attracting everything and everybody that I needed into my life. I started modeling with SLIICK, a professional and personal development brand founded by my best friend Erinesha Medley, and that was my way of confronting my social anxiety head-on.

As I discovered new ways to unlock my truth I discovered more ways to help others. When I finally came across the teachings of Abraham Hicks, I truly realized the power I had to create the life of my dreams and ever since then I have set my dreams big and have trusted that they will come true. I made manifesting the highest version of myself and the most fabulous life my mission. So far that led me to successfully completing my PhD in 2021 despite the pandemic and grief of losing loved ones, I founded Mental Health Mondays to provide free mental health services to the Leimert Park Community, started the Parallel Paths Podcast (on Youtube and all streaming platforms), I traveled performing my sound bowls and healing others in larges spaces, and now I am here in African (Youtube Absolute Truth Travels), living out my dreams of living in a place of peace that allows my to expand my toolkit of indigenous healing practice that I can bring back to my community in America. From these life experiences, I have established myself as a highly effective holistic healer through traditional psychological therapy, life coaching, spiritual guidance, meditation, sound therapy, community education, body movement, and plant-based living.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Ha, the road was as unknown as they could be. I always come back to the quote by Londrelle: “Life is a maze, life is amazing”. From the outside looking in, my life probably looks random as hell with the types and timing of the decisions I made in my life as they related to my career. But I knew that I was following my spirit and for most people, they would not understand that, and I grew to be okay with that. I would say the hardest part of my journey has been accepting that not everyone is going to understand what I am here to teach. Unfortunately, many people will leave this earth and never tap into the best parts of themselves. Another one of my biggest struggles was the social anxiety: I always knew my mission was to help people, but I was so crippled by the fear of being judged by the exact people I am called to assist. I saw myself go through periods of confidence to the later see that I was still struggling with the same fears. Over time I have seen that belief of “I’m not enough” shrink into the background and in its place is this beautiful pure light that brings so much happiness to everything it touches. Still today there is this battle but I am encouraged knowing that this is bigger than myself. My fears are minuscule in comparison to my mission.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the founder of Sol Powerful. Sol Powerful is a company I created to provide people with everything they need to embody their true potential through the healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Under the umbrella of Sol Powerful, you will find my personal coaching services, meditation and sounds healing services, products, events, and apparel.

Although the business Sol Powerful is new, many people know me for my meditations. I have been actively guiding the community in free meditations since the start of the pandemic once I realized that there was a call to action for me to serve the community. People have shared to me how impactful my meditations are in helping them transcend problems and feel more in touch with their higher selves. My coaching clients who I have been teaching meditation to, often tell me how much it has changed their lives through creating a greater sense of peace, awareness of one’s thoughts, sense of control over one’s emotions, and ability to focus on manifesting what they desire.

I am most proud of myself for moving to Africa. I was something I’d put on my vision board and I knew that once I finished grad school I would finally have the opportunity to live life on my own accord…I could finally pursue the spiritual path and reach greater levels of healing for myself that I could then share with the world. Although there was skeptism and resistance from others about my move, I trusted my intuition and me and my partner moved to the continent in March 2022.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Trust your intuition and take care of your mental health. Trust your purpose and your calling even if that means carving out your own lane. Dream big and surround yourself with others who also dream big and lead their lives from a place of love.
