Life & Work with Jewels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewels.

Jewels, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The story of my business starts at my senior year of high school. It was time for graduation and I was feeling really lost. Everyone around me had such a clear direction in life and I was unsure of what my next move was. I began working on my book “The Black Jewel” as part of a school project that I failed. After I failed, I was going to scrap it but something about this story felt important. I felt like the world needed a story about Black people just being free. Seeing themselves in works of fantasy and fiction, not just painful social movements and faux-uplifting. So I continued writing my book. Pouring endless hours into this one project, but I finally felt free and like I was doing something important. I started to realize that creativity was my calling. Growing up with ADHD, I picked up various hobbies and talents but had nothing to do with them. I was smart enough to know my purpose in life was to create but wise enough to know I needed a business behind it. Thats when the “Haus Of Diamonds” was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Journey is anything but smooth! Running an entertainment consulting business reminds that life is unpredictable. The entertainment industry can change by the hour. I have to keep up with client demands while also being mindful of industry standards and what is currently working. When I am not working with clients, I have to be on top of my own creative projects. And we haven’t even mentioned the fact that I’m currently in school and still working a day job. This isn’t for the faint of heart.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My consulting work and my artistic life go hand-in-hand. As an Artist, I create in whatever medium my ADHD feels like taking me in today. So sometimes this mean hours of studying a new practice. I have written books, created music videos, hosted legendary events, made music, produce tv shows, worked in fashion, etc… You name, I’ve done it or already planning on doing it.

As a business owner, one of my primary jobs is artistic development. I am not just here to work on a project, my goal is to improve the client as an overall artist. while completing a project, I begin helping creatives learn how to also sell themselves as a business and a product. If you are going to be an Artist, you need to be a business.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important quality to my success is a student mentality. I feel like I am always learning. It does not matter if it is a new art technique or a new business method, I am always looking to learn. There are always new ideas waiting to be discovered and executed. I can always get better.
