Daily Inspiration: Meet Rubber Feet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rubber Feet. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Rubber Feet began in drummer Liam Burns’ basement in Dallas, Georgia in November of 2020, joined by guitarists Garrett Claxton/Harrison King and bassist Ricky Martinez. At the time, the band was named Polyester Teeth, but it changed upon Ricky leaving the band in early 2021.

Then, we picked up pianist Nick Capalbo in March, followed by bassist Lucas Brown in May. With that lineup, we created a few improvisational albums that were eventually published under Harrison King’s personal moniker. We played our first show in July in Liam’s basement.

Lucas left the band in September and was soon replaced by the current bassist Andrew Hord in October. Since then, we’ve played four more shows and have been writing/refining nine songs to appear on our debut album, which is projected to release in the late summer of this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly could’ve been smoother at points, but that seems to be the case for any band. We struggled to find a committed bassist for almost a year, which did set us back in the writing process quite a bit.

We’re also all very busy young adults trying to pave our paths through each of our lives. It was difficult for the longest time to find a consistent schedule to meet and practice, but we made it work out eventually.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Rubber Feet makes progressive post/math-rock with hints of jazz and noise sprinkled in.

What are you known for?
Our performances have been described as eccentric, magical and unreal by our small, steadily-growing fanbase.

What are you most proud of?
We’re most proud of our last show at Heck House, and the performance is posted on Liam’s YouTube channel. We’re even more proud of our current influence on our small town’s sound, which isn’t particularly known for its experimental music scene in the slightest.

What sets you apart from others?
We all make consistent, conscious efforts to never leave any second of our compositions unperfected. We also don’t plan on releasing singles moving forward, only albums or EPs.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
The five members of Rubber Feet were all pretty interesting children. They each individually answered:

Harrison King: Was raised by foxes in the woods.

Andrew Hord: Ate nails and cement.

Liam Burns: Played Guitar Hero a lot.

Nick Capalbo & Garrett Claxton: No comment.
