Hi Sabina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, aesthetics service provider and the owner of Kulani Spa & Wellness. I am a dermatology-trained nurse practitioner who treats patients of all ages with various skin conditions. I have over 18 years of nursing experience ranging from ICU, Step-down, Telemetry, Med-Surg, Rehab, Home health, and long-term health. Aesthetics, natural skincare and wellness has always been a passion of mine, I believe feeling good in the skin you’re in plays a vital role in your confidence and self-esteem. After working in Dermatology for a number of years I continue to have a passion for skin and helping women and men fall in love with their skin again. My goal is to bring out the “reflection of your inner perfection” as our slogan says. Meaning that this is not just about getting pampered on a regular basis but about truly offering a space and services that will help our clients to embrace their beauty inside and out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has had its ups and downs and so it definitely has not been a smooth road. I left a well-paying job in the middle of the pandemic to venture out on my own and God held me up as I stepped out on faith. With the support of my family and a drive to bring this dream to fruition, I have been able to self-fund this start-up and not miss a rent payment. There have been months where I questioned whether I made the right decision, but I fall back on faith, family and a fierceness that was instilled in me at a young age. The pandemic itself presented a struggle in that I was treating a client population up close and personal in a time where we were all urged to social distance. From the beginning, it was a challenge to find a suitable location that fell within my budget, after months of searching, I ended up finding a suite in the same building where I started my nurse practitioner career. Being self-funded created another challenge with coming up with the capital to invest in the equipment needed to provide new services. However, as the months go by and the pandemic starts to ease, I have been seeing the patience and perseverance pay off with a growth in the number of new clients coming through our doors.

Kulani Spa & Wellness is a growing day spa that strives to create an atmosphere of comfort and bliss. We offer dermatology and skin rejuvenation services such as various customized facials, chemical peels, microneedling, dermaplaning, Microdermabrasion. We also help with hair loss by way of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). To expand our offerings and complement existing services we have recently added NeoSkin and NeoClear by Aerolase to our service portfolio to treat acne, melasma, hyperpigmentation, laser hair removal and so much more. Whether someone is coming for their first facial or is looking to create a healthy skin regimen, I have something to offer. Some folks may feel like they have to live with years of dermatology issues or have moles or skin tags but I remove these on a day-to-day basis. If you suffer from persistent acne, I have years of dermatology experience and will work on a treatment plan that would work to ensure the best results.
What are your plans for the future?
My future plan is that by continuing to offer top-tier services and I will grow from a one-woman operation into a full-service spa and wellness center. I strive to create an atmosphere where men and women can come and walk away feeling like their best selves. After my initial lease ends in 2024, I will be looking to open a storefront where I will have added more practitioners, services and capabilities to cater to a variety of skin rejuvenation and wellness services. The next service to be offered in the short term will IV Hydration and this should be introduced before the end of this year.

- Laser Hair Removal on a small area – $720 for 6 treatments (compared to a regular price of $900)
