Today we’d like to introduce you to Lionel “Kuma” Alexander.
Hi Lionel “Kuma”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the Founder and CEO of a Video Game and Animation Studio based right here in Atlanta. The Journey started a long time ago as VideoGames as an Art form has always been a passion of mine. I was born and raised in the 8-32 bit era and have never stopped immersing myself in the worlds that video games created. However, My Heroes from these worlds however magical they were did not reflect myself or the world I knew. I did not see myself in an industry that I loved. So naturally, I decided to do something about it.
I began writing my stories from an early age and creating massive interconnected worlds. I focused heavily on my Math and Science and took up Computer Science as a Major in college. In 2019, I began my journey in the world of game development as a Solo Independent Game Developer under the Name of Nerdy Bear Studios. Now the Dream that I had Alone I am sharing with a team of creatives to create these beautiful universes. We are working on five titles simultaneously to ensure the best cohesive story possible.
Our first title, “Hamsterdamm” is set to launch this Christmas on all platforms and is going to be amazing. It is a story that not only kicks off our universe is has everything Love, Drama, and Cute animals!!!
Hamsterdamm is an Action-packed Detective Noir that tells the tale of a beautiful city and the Secrets it holds. It borrows inspiration from the city of Amsterdam as well as the Culture, Fashion, and Music of the Times and utilizes all of that to spin an unforgettable and unique experience. It takes a look a Justice and how the scales can be corrupted and overall just a good time. There will even be a unique multiplayer feature that will bring hours of fun!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been incredibly rewarding but difficult.
For one, The pandemic brought development to a grinding stop. I Do not think any of us was ready for the lasting impact that we are still to this day facing. having to attempt to navigate closure and Funding issues as a small business has been a Nightmare. Even before the pandemic, there were challenges to face in setting up a Black-Owned Indie game studio. In a lot of ways, the Videogame industry is still a new one. So there is no right way to start up a small business.
Also, Bringing diversity to any industry will always have adversity.
