Daily Inspiration: Meet Carmen Cecilia Guevara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Cecilia Guevara.

Hi Carmen Cecilia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Venezuelan, born in the Llanos of Venezuela, in a small town called Acarigua, I come from a humble family that instilled great values in me. The thirst for justice is something that runs through my veins from a very early age, since I was a child I was always clear about what I wanted to study, and so at the age of 20 I graduated as a Lawyer at the University of Los Andes in Mérida-Venezuela, from there I knew that everything I did from the heart could go very far, I practiced my career with a lot of passion for 14 years. I did a postgraduate degree in Labor Law, and I had the opportunity to practice in several branches such as civil, and commercial, among others. Living in a country where justice was not delivered equitably, the exercise of the right became increasingly impracticable.

I arrived in the United States in May 2018, with that great title of IMMIGRANT with only one suitcase for my daughters, my husband, and myself, full of uncertainty and a lot of nostalgia, I spent nights crying for having left my relatives in my country, but as a woman of faith, I knew that God was with us and was preparing the way for something better. In October 2019 I had the opportunity to participate for the first time in the Diversity Visa Program, and in May 2020 I was selected, I think I spent about two days crying from excitement just knowing what this selection meant: I would become a Permanent Resident and see my family again! That same year, in August, my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I think it was one of the most shocking episodes of my life, and learning to live as a family with that condition for her. I think from there I understood the true purpose of why God sent us here.

With the arrival of 2022 came a project of preparation and professional growth, so in January I began my studies as a Paralegal at Emory University, Continuing Education, and I have a goal to complete my preparation in September of this year, being an example of perseverance and dedication.

At the same time in January of this year, I started my services company, especially in immigration procedures, I wanted a name that would carry my essence and that is how U.S-VEN SERVICES CG, INC, U.S (the country that opened its doors to me) VEN (the country where I was born) SERVICES (for the variety of services I provide to the community) CG (the initials of my name and also the initials of the names of my daughters). Thus was born this multi-service company, ready to help the community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, as every beginning is difficult, my first year I was doing work with physical effort, but I knew that I could give more of myself, that my happiness was not as a server in a restaurant or as a driver distributing food, but to challenge myself and start in a company, in an office job, where I was able to develop my skills and abilities for almost three years. During that time my need to learn grew, and as I identified with the immigrants in their misinformation, I knew that I had to help them and give them that support that not all of us have when we arrived in this country. So, making use of a great tool such as the internet I began to prepare myself by obtaining the License as an Immigration Assistance Provider, minister to celebrate marriages, Notary Public, and courses that were increasing my knowledge in the matter of immigration procedures.

Even though the day-to-day is the migratory procedures, I confess that my favorite service is that of Officiant of marriage ceremonies, I am an inveterate romantic and I take each celebration with the professionalism that it deserves and although I get a few tears when I see the bride and groom in front of my cry of happiness, I always give them my heart in their celebration and do everything in my power to make their day even more special.

How do you define success?
The success I define with this happiness that characterizes me today, sleeping with my conscience in peace, and this is only achieved when you have God as the center in everything you do, that has been my great secret, before each action I ask myself: do I please God with this act?
