Today we’d like to introduce you to Jabbar Williams.
Hi Jabbar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Queens, New York and raised in South Carolina. In 1996, I left Beaufort and moved to Atlanta to attend Clark Atlanta University. Shortly after I started college, my mother passed away unexpectedly. Despite having to take a year off and deal with much grief, I went on and fulfilled my mother’s wishes and graduated with a bachelor’s degree of Arts in Psychology. Upon graduating, I decided to read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad. At that time, I understood the material, but didn’t understand the message. Although the book inspired me to be an entrepreneur, I still ended up in the infamous rat race of working in the finance industry for 16 years as a branch manager. Finally, I understood the message, that working harder is not the solution to financial freedom. The entrepreneurship fire struck inside of me. I wanted to be my own boss and be able to give an inheritance to my children. I then read the book Jump by Steve Harvey and did just that. After being approached by one of my best friends/partners, I took a leap of faith in 2018 and started my own real estate company. I was a successful real estate investor in flipping homes around Atlanta and wholesaling properties. Then the pandemic hit, the housing market changed for flipping houses with the delays in materials along with increase in pricing for material. At that point, I decided to expand my business portfolio and include a business that was a bit more recession proof, a necessity and required me to make money passively.
In January 2021, I had a friend who introduced me to the Amazon Relay Program, and this is where I began my journey in Logistics, utilizing only one rental truck at that time. Within the next six months I was able to employ, and operate three rental trucks working exclusively with Amazon Relay. In those 6 months, I grossed over $300,000. 18 months later, I now have grossed over $950,000 working exclusively with Amazon Relay.
Sweet Success is what I termed it. While experiencing such quick success and learning from my own “rookie” mistakes it prompted me to start a business in consultation for logistics.
That consultation business is Box Truck Shawty. Box Truck Shawty is a persona that I created to introduce and educate people who are new to the logistics industry. When I entered the industry, it was commonly said that the only way to enter logistics was by purchasing and financing a truck. This is where Box Truck Shawty came into play. I wanted to provide information and training in reference to the utilization of rental trucks and assisting others to get started with Amazon Relay. There are so many people whose business failed due to not having finances to keep up with costly maintenance on their purchased truck. Therefore, I instruct people on how to get started using rental trucks and it has had great results.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road for me because I came into the industry with a mentor and did a ton of research on my own. This has helped me minimize my risks and avoid a lot of detrimental mistakes. When I start a business, I become obsessed with the industry that I am entering.
The most common struggle is finding dependable, reliable drivers. When your drivers are late, it impacts you Performance Score which influences the good-paying loads offered to you by Amazon. Time is important working with Amazon Relay and being on time influences the quality of loads available for you to book. Being on time is an industry-standard whether is Amazon Relay or not.
We’ve been impressed with Box Truck Shawty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in assisting others on how to enter into logistics and how to get approved with Amazon Relay. Many have come to know me as Box Truck Shawty via social media, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Tik Tok. I am known for my inspirational quotes, tips and my Step-by-Step Starter Pack E-book material.
Most people believe that you had to own your own truck to get involved with Logistics but all of my trucks are rental and I don’t have to pay for maintenance or costly breakdowns. I started this business with no prior knowledge or work experience. People believe you had to quit your job or physically drive a truck in order to make money in logistics. I changed the perspective of how people who work a regular 9 to 5 job view the logistics industry. My system and business teaches otherwise. Without ever driving a truck, I was able to see financial success.
Speaking with people and helping them transition from being employees to business owners are some of my proudest moments. I am very proud to help others JUMP into logistics, ownership and experience the same success I have. When I tell all my clients “I’ll see you at the top!” I really mean that. It is my goal for everyone to reach the top.
As far as what I do, I offer one-on-one consultations, three-day training experience with Amazon, a Step 1- The Starter Pack Blueprint Guide and Step 2- Rookie Playbook Guide to Mastering Amazon Relay.
All these services can be found at my website: www.boxtruckshawty.com
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I think that my life experiences and challenges has molded me to push for the top. “YOU get, what YOU put in”, is my motto I live by throughout my life and my businesses.
