Today we’d like to introduce you to YKM Rob.
Hi YKM, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for music stems as far back as I can remember. Musicians run in my bloodline. When I was 9 years old I started listening to artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Migos. Around this time, I was inspired to start making my own music so I picked up my sister’s Beats and Macbook Pro and the magic began. I recorded my first song and my sister shot a video for me on her iPhone. I took the footage and used Final Cut Pro to edit then released it on Youtube. After only two days it hit 1k views! It wasn’t for another two years, in 2017, that I got the itch to start making music again when I was introduced to Ru3… who is now my brother-in-law. He had been making music for a few years and had access to an actual studio. I was able to record two songs on a “real mic.!” That day I decided that I had to have my own studio. My dad and uncles pitched in to get everything that I needed for my own home studio in my bedroom. This is where all of my music is recorded to date. At 15 years old, my style and voice has changed so much in just the past few years. I love switching up my sounds and style and getting feedback from everyone around me. I mostly enjoy making music you can just vibe to…riding with the windows down the type of vibe. I’m constantly looking to grow and perfect my craft.
My goal is to inspire other young artists to follow their dreams and do what they are really passionate about. Life is precious, and I intend to live every single day doing what I love. One day it will be part of my success story… I have plans on being a household name and I really want to create a new way of life for my family.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Staying motivated can sometimes be a struggle for me. While a lot of kids my age are hanging out, getting into trouble, I try to stay on track with my goals and constantly adding to my portfolio. Sometimes finances can be a challenge, too. Making videos and buying new equipment gets real expensive. I started selling my own merch, which helps out at times. I just remind myself to stay focused and positive. Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most known for making music that you can just vibe to, My music is different than most coming out of Atlanta. That’s what I think sets me apart from everyone else, aside from me starting at such a young age. I’m most proud of creating my own fan base, organically. Also, my first ever professional music video reaching 2 thousand views in less than a month.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I really don’t believe in “luck.” Divine timing has been on my side. I’ve met and/or built relationships with quite a few of my favorite artists… I just feel like these are signs to show me that I’m on the right path. Confirmation, really. It’s just a matter of time for me.
