Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Anthony.
Hi Robert, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been singing all my life. It has always been a dream to be a recording artist and share my talents with the world. I moved to Atlanta in March 2016 to pursue a singing and acting career because Atlanta was and is the place to be just for that. I was going to give myself one year to get acclimated to the city, however, 11 months after I arrived, my mother suddenly passed away on my 30th birthday. The sudden loss of my mom really took a toll on me and all the desire I had to become a singer and actor was no longer there.
It took some convincing from my friends to not give up on my dreams. I went out on an audition for a local play and instantly was given the role on the spot.
Fast forward to 2020, a coworker asked me to record a song he wrote because he loved my singing voice. He heard me singing at our company Christmas party in 2019 and instantly knew I was the right person for the song. I was hesitant at first but I gave in. On February 7, 2021, the day before my 44th birthday, we went into the studio to record the song Forbidden.
My passion for recording was immediately ignited and I wanted to record more songs and complete an album. That was the birth of my label 2877 Music Group. I started writing songs and got with my producing team and we created my debut CD Aquarius
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been easy at all. You learn so much about yourself when you are trying to make a name for yourself and your brand. You also end up learning about individuals who don’t believe in you as you thought they did.
I funded this project on my own and I had no idea how I was going to manage getting my project complete while also maintaining my household. A really good friend of mine, Aleia Kadar and her husband Anton Kadar, stepped in and assisted me in funding the last 2 songs I needed for my CD. They believed in me enough to assist me and help me see this through. I will forever be grateful to them for that.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent recording artist, actor, songwriter, producer, and model. I’m very passionate about the arts and how I come across as an artist. I believe in giving my all each and every time I perform as well as when I’m in the recording studio.
I want my music to be the soundtrack to someone’s life just like it was for me back in the 80’s and 90’s. That’s when music felt good and it told a story.
I’m mostly proud of how I overcame not wanting to do anything after my mom passed to now, writing, recording, executive producing my debut CD as well as being the Executive Producer on a movie that I’m also starring in. I did all this while staying true to who I am personally as well as an artist.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I find that surrounding yourself around like-minded individuals has been the best thing for me. Taking the time to study the craft and getting advice from them on how to become better at what I do.
My Producer, Christian Ahmed, has become an individual that I look up to in this business. He has been a great mentor to me and has put me in the presence of other individuals that I have learned so much from. He has taken the time to learn and understand me and he pushes me to limits that I would normally be scared to do on my own. His energy is amazing and he is also an amazing artist himself.
