Daily Inspiration: Meet 3RDegree Nikee

Today we’d like to introduce you to 3RDegree Nikee.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Although Music has always found its way into my life. I think that 2016 was the beginning of my journey towards a music career. There were a lot of trials and tribulations and life wasn’t easy at the time, especially being on the streets. I started going to sessions with an engineer from Ear Drummers which happens to be Mike-Wil-Made-IT Label. That’s around the time I started recording. My influence to do music stems from people around me, even people I wouldn’t expect it from such as teachers and the parents of my friends. When those kinds of people start encouraging you to pursue your passion vs going into standard career jobs, it really makes you consider the fact that there is something special going on here. Music became almost like an escape from reality at that time of my life. And to be completely honest it was one of the few things I was actually good at and quickly my passion for making music grew.

Around the same time, I was able to re-enroll into school. I was only a couple of credits shy from graduating. Although at times it seemed that all the odds were against me, music Gave me a new purpose and it gave me new goals to set and strive for. During that time I was around a lot of different artists, exposing myself to different personalities. I knew that I didn’t wanna be labeled as a “rapper”, I wanted to be in my own lane. I started working with different engineers. I started networking at all events I ran across, always speaking to those who seemed to have it together. My first artist’s name was “Nike”. I used to introduce myself as “Nike” with one “E” but It didn’t match my persona just yet. Plus I didn’t want others to confuse my artist name with the actual brand “Nike”. I decided to add 3RDegree to the beginning of Nike, making my artist name “3rdegree Nikee” by also adding an extra E onto “Nike”. As I continued to pursue music I became more diverse with a unique sound of my own. Even today as I get exposed to new genres and different beats I’m still evolving.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say that this road has been smooth. I have a real passion for music so it’s not difficult creating as long as I can find the beats that speak to me. Among numerous struggles, I would say one of my personal struggles has been consistency. Being an artist doesn’t mean your personal life won’t hinder you from achieving certain accomplishments. Another struggle is getting people to believe in your dream like you believe in yourself. Today, the battle of becoming a successful music artist is over-saturated. That makes it difficult throughout the years to get people to actually indulge in everything you do musically. Lastly One of the struggles is getting out of your own way. A lot of us artists tend to always be in our head deciphering what is the next move or how to do this and how to go about that. That type of responsibility and overthinking is overwhelming and can stress you out more than it should honestly.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
3RDegree Nikee is a music artist. I provide the energy and vibes throughout my vibration as a person and also the frequency in my music. People always tell me that my energy and passion is what make me stand out from others, as well as my genuineness and humbleness. I am most proud of myself for always staying true to myself, morals, and sticking through the toughest of times alone. Proud I have never had to stoop low to make myself look better than the next person.
