Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Wilson.
Hi Sydney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Sydney Lashon. I am 24 years old and from Decatur GA. I attended Georgia State University for an undergrad where I received my BS in psychology. Through my entire life, I have always been an athlete. I have participated in all-star cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, and track. I continued my cheer journey at GSU and quit due to a life-changing experience leading to depression. Through this depression, I found fitness in 2017. I hit up an old gymnastic mate that I have seen was a trainer and also attended GSU. After beginning training, I fell in love with fitness! It became the outlet to finding my confidence during a low time. I stayed consistent with my fitness journey ever since. I spent so much time trying to get “ thick” but gained so much more mentally. It led me to wanting to share this life-changing experience with other women. That’s where She’s Bodied came about. My goal was/is to bring physical and mental growth to women all over the world. It started out as an Instagram page for me to post encouraging messages and fitness videos. Then the brand She’s Bodied became an athleisure wear company for women to feel confident in and out of the gym. I was so excited about the support I was getting and my fitness journey I decided to quit my job as a registered behavioral technician and start training clients as a personal trainer adding ANOTHER outlet to the brand. This decision was tough and I definitely felt underqualified at a point in time.
Living the entrepreneur lifestyle has its benefits and also its downfalls but I enjoyed every moment of time freedom while I also realized I truly missed working with children in the spectrum. I use to think I had to choose to be an entrepreneur or a corporate gal because you can’t do both. But, I realized my passions include mental and physical health which led me back to my registered behavioral tech position while continuing my brand…
Currently, She’s Bodied has accomplished so much! In September 2021 we celebrated our one year anniversary with our first annual pop-up shop which will be returning September 2022! We live by our mission every day to help women mentally and physically. Recently we started the BODIED & BUNZ full-body workout class online and in person to help everyone find their fit rhythm! Also, we have created an online training platform that creates your customize pre-recorded workouts and meal plans all from an app.
The journey still continues in building this beautiful brand. The highs have been high and the lows are super low and the impact continues to grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a business and being young is never a smooth journey in my opinion. I started my brand with no help. Just me and my little paychecks. Basically recycling the money I earned to get new items which was not always the smartest idea. Along the way, I have run into every bump you can encounter from financial bumps, mental bumps, and lack of resource bumps. I always overcame them and showed up for my brand even if I was crying and wanting to quit the night before. I knew my brand was bigger than me and impacts many women.
The biggest struggle I encountered was comparison. I compared my myself to others wondering why I was not further asking for so long and it reflected in my business. Personal development is so important when being a business owner. It has gotten me in the right head space when I need a push.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my professional life, I am a registered behavioral technician. In this profession, I work with kids on the spectrum with their language and learning abilities. I love this work and plan to continue growing in the field. I am also a certified personal trainer for in-person and online clients. I am most proud of the impact I leave on others that I help whether it is a child or adults. Seeing the growth mentally and/or psychically makes it all worth it. Being a women of all trades sets me apart because I do what I do so nobody else has to feel how I felt in the past. What I mean by this is depression and Angie are hard to manage and the world is not getting any easier. I taught brand the importance of mental health and learned how to use personal development along with fitness to guide me through life’s hardships.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During Covid, I can say I learned that you can run your business from anywhere. It’s literally all about supplying the demand.
