Daily Inspiration: Meet Desani Windon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desani Windon.

Hi Desani, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Atlanta at 11 years old and always had a deep love for the city & music from out the city, knew I wanted to do something in the music industry forever but my family always tried to push me down a different path, at 16 me & my potna borrowed some equipment from my high school and shot our first interview on a 0$ budget, it was terrible but I loved it, I got a job at McDonald’s trying to fund all my dreams of becoming a interviewer but my parents ultimately sat me down and got me to join the military at 17, I went to boot camp for two months and a school for another two months in 2018 and by that time I had convinced myself that maybe I could do the military, then I came back home for a lil Christmas break and ended up at a Cassanova & Tory lanez shoot & at a complex studios in NY with DJ Akademiks thru the connections my brother shotbywolf had built while I was away and after talking to him it woke me up and made me realize I still wanted to be in the music business & that this is what I was meant to do, I stayed in the military & moved to cali up until the tail end of 2019 & moved back to ATL and started pursuing interviews again but u slowly learned getting big artist to give you a interview with no platform is harder then I thought, but I already had a camera so I was like “might as well do something with this” boom started doing bts for Yung Mal who I met thru wolf & moved my way up in quality & connections, ended up linking with YSL which treated me like family & various other artist of note, even managed to get a couple interviews in and now I have my own channel with over 1.5 million views & in the process of making my first movie, shooting music videos and starting a show, it wasn’t easy, still isn’t but I love what I do, glad to be here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not really but that’s how it goes, after I left the military my parents were super disappointed & refused to help me at all, had to stay up a lot of hours, slept in my car, lost relationships & lost jobs cause I would leave whenever I had an opportunity to do a big shoot, I went thru every emotion & definitely thought about quitting a couple of times but I didn’t, just took every L on the chin & kept going and figuring it out, as long as you don’t quit you can’t fail.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do vlogs, interviews, behind the scenes, and shoot music videos for a multitude of artists.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Luckily my closet friend had built up his connections and looked out for me when I needed him to, just find a good person that’s willing to teach you something, build that friendship and bond and go up. Be careful tho, never know who has your best intention.
