Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Garvey.
Hi Omar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Uptown Bronx, New York. I started rapping with my older brothers when I was about seven years old. They were always recording in the house, I was inspired at a young age. Acting and music is just a natural gift of mine that I’d love to expand at this point in my life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, many ups and downs. Still learning as I grow, just maintaining and trusting the process. I’ve been told no many times, been told I’d never amount to anything in life, been laughed at, made fun of because I’m skinny, went broke so many times, negative account many times. Many doubts would creep in, just still trying to keep the faith.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hip hop artist and actor. I’m proud of my growth in both areas. I’ve been on tv, I’ve been on big stages, I’ve spoken to celebrities, I lost jobs to chase opportunities. I’m most proud of my faith, my endurance, the fact that I keep going when I be questioning if it’s still worth it, then I listen to my material and be like “hell yeah”. People could decide for themselves what separates me apart, I just know I’m not really like everybody else that’s considered popular these days. I really just want to make a good living and career out of what I love and enjoy doing while being able to provide for my family.
