Daily Inspiration: Meet Nunu Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nunu Jones.

Hi Nunu, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I would say my starting point was when I told my mother at the age of six that I was going to be Beyoncé. Since that moment I have always been told that I give off that ‘star’ persona. I wrote my first rap at eight years old. I was in the youth choir at church and that is where I sang my first solo. It was Whitney Houston’s “I love the Lord”. I also sang in the chorus from age 9 to 13. I played the violin at age eight until I graduated High School. I started off writing poetry. I remember in High School, my best friend, Elijah, suggested that we write rhymes because we always wrote poetry together. That did it. I’ve been writing and recording ever since. I didn’t actually release any music until I got to Howard University in 2018. That is where I did my first show. I performed for Spring Fest. Things really started to pick up when I moved to ATL in June 2021. I started off doing shows in small clubs without a stage and now I’m opening up for big artists like Enchanting from Gucci Manes label 1017.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mom always told me that nothing worth having comes easy. The best things in life are never free or cheap. With that being said, this journey hasn’t been an easy one but it is a growing one. I’ve learned a lot about myself, my values and my morals throughout this journey. My biggest struggle was me, honestly speaking. I had to get out of my own way. I’ve learned to believe in myself and to constantly push to be better than yesterday. I now go harder and do more.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist. I write music, I rap, sing, model and I can act. I am most known for my rapping abilities and my ‘NuMixes/NuStyles’ I post on my IG for my fly guys & gals! What sets me apart from others is that I don’t even compare myself to anyone else. There are many lanes and I chose to walk my own. Although I admire them both, I’m not out here trying to be the next Nicki or Megan Thee Stallion. I’m working on building my own brand the Nunu Jones way.

What’s next?
I do have a few irons in the fire that I’m not allowed to speak on just yet. As soon as I am able to speak on it, you will be the first to know.
