Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakima Dyson.
Hi Jakima, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Three Jersey girls by the name of Kima, Keisha and Pam start a group known as total. We signed a deal with Sean Combs in the early 90s. We had numerous hits from Can’t you see ft notorious big, kissing you, tripping and what about us, as well as features Lounging lol Cool J featuring Total, Tell me what you want Mase ft Total. This started me on my journey in the entertainment industry. Took a long break and in 2016 reunited with the bad boy family and this sparked a fire in me and my children. I realeased a single in 2018 called Luv me back and my children a pursuing their passion for the industry. We decided to move to Georgia for a change. My husband and I have opened a Takeout restaurant and were living our best life right now… With open hearts and minds for our journey here in Georgia with God’s blessings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is not realistic to think anything is going to be easy. Everything has its bumps in the road. Those lessons mold you, It is more about how you navigate thru them. My Main struggles has been really knowing my worth and being confident enough to step out and find my own lane outside the Total Brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Kima 1/3 of the Multi Platnium group Totally est 1995 On Badboy Records!!! We are most known for our Hit singles “Can’t you See” ft Notorious BIG and “Kissing You” just to name a few. In my professional life I have acted, styled and Creative Directed many personal projects! What set me apart is my passion to not disappoint myself… I have been able to navigate being on stage to having had Avery successfully personal life and buisness that has been my balance and giving me the sanity tone able to continue to follow my dreams and other passions, My way and on My Terms
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Take the time to pause and get to know who you really are!
