Meet Chansi Coleman of La Fleur Chick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chansi Coleman.

Chansi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The history of my transition to event planning and floral decor’ simply dates back to 2005 as a first year Agriscience teacher prepared to teach horticulture and nursery landscape. When I received my schedule I realized that floral design was one of the courses. After my nerves settled, I was ready for the challenge.

With no formal training, I grabbed a textbook and quickly became self-taught with the assistance of a retired Agriscience teacher and VHS tapes. As a final project, students used their skills and designed boutonnieres, corsages, bud vases, bridal bouquets and ceremonial decor which later transitioned to formal mock weddings and professional work in the community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My role as “La Fleur Chick” has been a fun road. I believe like most “mompreneurs,” managing home, children, occupation, and business can be met with some challenges. However, I have managed with a supportive team and that helps to provide organization and balance.

Please tell us about La Fleur Chick.
La Fleur Chick is the creative design component with Spilling Tea Events founded by Chanda and Candiss Williams, who happen to be my awesome sisters. I specialize in simple and chic fresh floral design using minimal flowers for a conservative client with modern taste. I am known for using less to make statements of “more” with a pop of foliage. I am most proud of my business for its reputation to execute events with positive feedback from our clients. While we do have a social media presence, our clients are all word of mouth.
