Hi Adeline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been into Healthcare. From taking care of my dolls since I was young to always saying I wanted to be a pediatrician when I grow up, healing and taking care of people has always been my niche. I started this business in April of 2020 at first just to take care of myself using natural products. I have year-round allergies, asthma and eczema. Sometimes the medicine I take just wasn’t working. Around springtime is when I have the most problems due to the pollen and weather changes. My skin usually starts scabbing from scratching so much. I’m usually constantly sneezing and all that drainage from my sinuses causes mucus to accumulate on my chest. I originally started with just elderberry syrup which is a berry that boosts your immune system tremendously! I was purchasing elderberry from someone else and it was working but I had the idea to add more ingredients like cinnamon and wild cherry bark which both help with inflammation. As soon as I noticed it started working better for me, I started giving it to my parents. They’re older, in their 60s, so their health is important to me. Around December 2020, mom was diagnosed with high cholesterol which made me look even deeper into natural health products. I then started making elderberry sea moss! Slowly but surely my business has grown to creating natural soaps and skincare that have already been helping many others locally as well as state to state.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the struggles I have encountered is getting people to understand how important their health is! I didn’t change my diet just added natural products to it and doing that has literally changed my life. What is hard for people to understand is that the items I make take time to make a difference. Just like any medicine, your body has to get used to what you’re giving it and that’s been an issue because people expect it to work immediately. Another struggle I have encountered is funding. I have funded my business out of my own pocket since day one. I have no loans, credits and grants of any sort to help get my business off the ground. I am not complaining nor is money a big factor but funding important in order to reach out to more people and show them how well these natural/vegan products work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of my business, I work in home Healthcare with the geriatric population. I have been introducing these natural products to them as well. The geriatric population is mostly at risk for having depressed immune systems. I make sea moss smoothies for some of them to add to their diets. I have had many of my patients tell me they are so happy they tried them because their blood pressure or blood sugar has leveled out. Even after taking their medicines for years that weren’t working as well alone. I am most proud of that as well as helping people clear their skin naturally. I am set apart from others because all my products are natural, vegan, handmade with love and they actually work! I also educate everyone on these products because everyone’s body is not the same.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Within the next five years, I will have employees at a storefront. All my fruits and herbs will be hand-picked from a local garden/farm as well. Within the next ten years, I plan on opening a drive-thru convenience store where people can get their Healthcare, small plates as well as a little groceries all in one place without having to get out of their car!
