Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryson Henry.
Hi Bryson, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
First, my dad has been an avid videographer and photographer for the majority of his life, and I had never thought I would pick it up. But when I started high school in the year of 2019, I wanted to establish a new stable stream of income. Shortly after I applied I got rejected by Publix, I turned to my dad for work. Initially, I began filming athletic games with my dad’s camera for $10, which he would post on his youtube channel. Gradually, I started to develop a passion for videography, and my dad noticed this, and in turn, gifted me my first camera. I started going to games at my high school, and people started to book my services. A couple of months into this newly garnered passion, I changed my Instagram username to brysonfilms resulting in new clientele. My name spread from word of mouth, and after about two years of doing client work, I’ve now amassed over 5,000 followers on Instagram, and my work has gotten over a million total views across all my social platforms.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. But that is the case for any profession or field. For me, the biggest struggle I’ve had to face is juggling client work with the school. Some days I would have multiple videos due by the evening and also plenty of homework assignments to do that same night. Another struggle is finding consist stable income streams. With being a videographer or photographer you aren’t promised a new booking every day with freelance and that has been something I’ve had to learn and adjust to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m mainly a sports videographer and photographer but I also do different gigs outside of sports. I’m most known for the highlight reels I make for my high school athletic teams. I’m most proud of how far God has taken me in this journey and the many opportunities he has opened for me. What sets me apart from others is the eye I have for capturing moments with my camera. Whether it be a game-winner in sports or someone graduating and waving to their family. Nonetheless, I’m always looking for the best juncture.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along my journey is not to compare my work to other creatives. I follow hundreds of people on social media who are in the profession as me, and it’s easy to get discouraged and think, “wow, I’m not as good,” or feel like I need to change my gear to be evenly matched with that person. But once I started focusing on the gift that God gave me and working on perfecting that instead of trying to mimic other people’s gifts that aren’t mine.
