Meet Jay Page of One Night Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Page.

Hi Jay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in music in middle school. My parents are Jamaican, so my dad had those big speakers that stayed in wooden cabinets and an entire sound room in our basement. So naturally, throwing parties was part of my upbringing. In high school, I downloaded music and made CDs for people when they got their first car. Everyone drove out of the senior lot playing CDs I burned for them. Fast forward to college, I dabbled a little with DJing parties. Sometimes it was just my friends hanging out or fraternity/sorority parties.

Then I met my mentor, who taught me how to be a true DJ and Emcee. Under that company, I took my natural musicality, as well as my drive to be the best, and turned it into an entertainment powerhouse. Over the course of the next six years, we went from 100 events a year to 200+ events a year and we staffed multiple DJs. After six years, I felt like I was ready to branch out on my own, thus the birth of One Night Entertainment. Our company is in its fourth year and we are breaking the mold. We have 5 DJs full-time, 300+ weddings a year, and we manage 3 nightlife residencies in the city.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I’ve encountered has been growing our staff. I have high expectations for my DJs. The whole premise behind the name of the company is “One Night” because I know we have one night to get the event right. You have One Night to get your event right also. We want DJs around us that respect the importance of this and put in the work to meet expectations. We are managing over 300 events in a year so having a system in place to manage all of those people is critical. Accountability is mandatory. So yeah my biggest struggle has been focusing on just a “love for Djing” and becoming a manager of people also. Our clients deserve the best DJs in Atlanta and I am on a mission to find those professionals.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about One Night Entertainment?
One Night Entertainment is a mobile DJ and production company. Our team at its core is a collection of very talented DJs and Emcees. Our team is known for its approach to events and the talent behind the turntables. Our DJs are consistently DJing in clubs and a myriad of other events. So we’ve mastered the ability to be well-rounded and rock any room. A few things that set us apart from our industry peers are our attention to detail, customer service, and our focus on aesthetics. Whenever we’re involved in a production we make sure we add to the event’s ambiance. That’s big for us. Things like custom DJ Booths, Up Lighting, and Special Effects are all part of our brand and allow us to offer our clients more than just a DJ.

We are most proud of the relationships we have built. This industry is grueling at times, but the people we have met make it worth it. We make sure to meet with all of our couples before their wedding and plan out the night during our Pre-Event Consultation. This is a way to get to know each other, troubleshoot the day, and brainstorm some really creative surprises for their guests. We also have formed solid relationships with other industry folks, a lot of photographers and wedding planners have become friends! Ultimately this is best for the client because our strong relationships foster communication and a higher entertainment value.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
DJing has been one of the most consistent elements in the entertainment field. Everything from clubs to Sweet 16’s in the backyard requires someone to hold it down on the decks. Our industry demands different levels of skill from within DJing. I believe clients are now starting to understand the difference between those skill sets.

We’ve been spinning in the Atlanta DJ’s industry for over 10 years. The skills that are required for this level of expertise are cultivated from years of experience. Given Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook clients now see and feel the experience before engaging with us. They also have a better vision of their event and how our team will fit into their needs. When we first started most clients didn’t know how they wanted their event to look, sound, or feel. Because of those platforms, clients have a better idea of what they would like to accomplish. Thus allowing them to sense the difference between companies and their skills.

For us, it’s turned into an advantage. Our client base allows us to show off their amazingness. In return, we are able to show an array of our skills. This wasn’t possible in the past.
