Check Out Tracy Hamlin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Hamlin.

Hi Tracy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born into a musical family in Baltimore, Maryland. My three brothers would imitate the Temptations and The Jackson 5 and they’d perform for guests at our home. If one was absent, I would fill in for them! If they were all there, I would get so upset! That led to my decision to go solo at five years old. When neighbors had guests, they’d pay me to come sing. When I was 11 years old, I auditioned for a popular local band in Baltimore. During the audition, everyone thought it was cute because this little girl wanted to come audition for a prominent band. But when I sang, they hired me and I performed with them just a few days later. I also participated in (and won) several talent shows and pageants including Hal Jackson’s Ms. Talented Teen Maryland and Ms. Baltimore.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was always a versatile artist, and that has been both a blessing and a curse. It’s been such a blessing to not allow any one genre to define me and to be able to create the art that I wanted to create. But at the same time, people like to pigeonhole artists into one group. It was a challenge to find my audience, but with time I was able to create a fanbase that really understood me and the music I make. When labels were not able to see the blessing in my versatility, I started my own label, DMH Records, allowed to record the music I wanted to. I named the label after my mother, Dorothy Marie Hamlin. With that, I’ve been able to create my own opportunities. And I continue to do so!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Soul and House Diva who is known for her powerhouse vocals. My special blend of jazz and R&B creates a unique sound, and my signature powerhouse vocals on dance tracks make my records special. What sets me apart from other artists is that the work that I create and the songs that I write are unique to me. With every song that I sing, I show listeners my authentic self because the songs that I write are based off of my own personal experiences. I’m very proud of that.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I started a Sweet Jazz Concert Series that allowed me to share my love of jazz music with other people while also using music as a catalyst to give back to the community via music scholarships and donations to local charities. I am so very excited to announce that the next concert will be taking place on August 6, 2022 in Loudoun County VA, and features Eric Essix and myself!
