Meet Millszy Benku

Today we’d like to introduce you to Millszy Benku.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My start in music was inspired by my grandfather. Even though I never got the opportunity to meet him, I was able to remember him through his passion for music. He would tour all over the world with famous musicians… The amazing memories, stories, and moments I was told is the greatest gift of inspiration. How impacting he was? I strive to be that / beyond.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all, haha! My journey started from dropping out of high school to fully commit to my career. I couldn’t stop writing, I love writing no matter the form of it. I was committed to that plus rap but it caused problems at home. As I got older, it only got worse! I entered into the underground performing scene, I had never showcased my talent outside of my house. I muscled up enough courage, I hit the stage & choked at my first live show in front of underground legend Mickey Factz! I dropped two tapes within the year… then took two years off from music in general. That’s what fueled my drive, that’s what accelerated the comeback.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Overall I’m a woman of many hats… I rap, songwrite, create content ideas for visuals or songs, dance, do hair, sing a little bit & bake. My specialty overall is performing arts! Being able to tell your story without saying a word? Inviting people to live through your actions & showcasing your emotions through artistical movement. I breathe performing. Mostly I’m known for my high energy & cadence throughout records, I’ve been told I have such a distinct voice. Being able to tell it’s me on a record is an honor, not everyone is fortunate to sound completely different than others… I’m definitely most proud of my work ethic/growth. Back in November 2021, I broke my ankle & was out for 6-8 weeks. Since I’ve healed, I haven’t stopped being outside or perfecting my craft, or performing for that matter! There are no excuses in this game & I refuse to start now. What sets me apart is my energy, work ethic & overall unorthodox way of doing things. Artists try to fit in, I aim to stand out. They wanna be sexy, I wanna be a rockstar. They like outfits, I’m more of a give me a tight shirt & some pants I can move around in. They do the twerking… Well don’t get me wrong I twerk sometimes too … haha! But I love moshpits, raging & being united with the audience. They are my energy, they keep me grounded. My style, voice, rage & dominant persona cannot be duplicated. EVER

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Hmm, favorite childhood memory? When I went away to a performing arts camp in Boston, I don’t remember the name. I do remember I was there for two weeks & had accomplished getting over the fear of performing arts as a whole. The stage fright was gone, the breath control got perfected & I knew from then the art world was everything to me. There was no giving up, it was forever. Those two weeks solidified my journey!
