Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Riley.
Hi Blake, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Indianapolis, IN. From a close family made up of six kids. Family was very athletic and played all sports. First love was basketball but was passionate about football. Father played professional football and always wanted to be like him. Decided football was going to take me to college. Was able to get a full-ride scholarship with athletics and academics to a HBCU CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY. Chose that school to school to follow in my older brother’s footsteps who played basketball for Howard University. Graduated college and moved back home to pursue a career in fitness and sports training under our family business and gym. After two years of attempting to make my own lane in business I found it was difficult. Trying to stand out under a last name that was already very well established in the city due to my father and older brother was very difficult.
Thanks to the support of my wife, I decided to move to Atlanta to pursue my goals. I worked hard as a personal trainer and boxing instructor for 4 years before gaining the opportunity to gain ownership in my own gym. While pursuing my goals as a fitness trainer and continuing on my own fitness journey I realized that I was not satisfied. I realized that my years of playing sports left a scar that never healed. I still had the drive and interest to compete in something, but what? I knew I did not want to return to football but I work so hard that I wanted to test my heart, talent, and abilities at something. I could not find anything that fit what I was trying to do and knew I could not be the only former athlete that felt this way. With that being said I decided to create the MAXED OUT GAMES. A fitness competition that creating a lane of it’s own against all other. A competition that speaks to all fitness backgrounds and says “come out and show us what you got.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. I had to bootstrap and self-fund my business from the beginning. Every aspect from proving the concept to getting the word out and been a non stop grind.
We’ve been impressed with Maxed Out Games, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Maxed out games is a place for you to push your physical and mental limits with friendly competition. An environment built on teamwork, drive, and overcoming adversity, where pushing yourself past your norm is the reward.
We are a team competition created to put local competitors up against each other to test their physical and fitness abilities.
We are a 1 day multi-event competition that will challenge each aspect of your athletic ability.
We give people the chance to satisfy that competitive urge on a stage that will put their talents up against the best.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That I am the nicest guy you will ever meet. I may come off serious or intimidating, but I am the nicest person you will ever meet.
