Meet Maurice Jerry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Jerry.

Hi Maurice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an actor based out of Atlanta, Georgia! Performing and storytelling has always beensuch a profound part of my life. My journey has started in New York, where I was born and raised. I began acting in school plays and musicals when I was eight years old and have not looked back. I was very fortunate to study my passion in college with the support of my parents, they are the reason I am where I am today. As I have been currently transitioning from my theatre background to TV/Film, I have been loving the journey and capitalizing on every opportunity I receive.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As many know, moving from a different state alone can be very daunting and scary. Of course, there were moments where I would second guess myself, but nevertheless I know this is where I am meant to be and this is what I am meant to do. I have lost friends along my journey, and distanced myself from past friendships and relationships, however, this needed to be done in order to grow. In this industry, you hear “no, not yet, and most times nothing at all” on a regular basis, it takes a resilient person to believe in themselves through the ups and the downs. However that is the key to staying in this industry, I would like to say to all actors, creatives, etc. your art matters and it deserves and needs to be seen and showcased for the world to see.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One thing that I am very passionate about is story-telling. I believe in this industry you can’t just wait around for a project or opportunity to present itself to you, you create the opportunity. Through networking with fellow actors and creatives, I can confidently say that those projects are the ones that are held close to my heart. However, since moving here, I have been blessed to be seen in TV ONE’s “Sins of the City, Payback, and ATL Homicide’. Looking forward to the future and all of the upcoming projects that I will be fortunate to be a part of.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Each person in my life has held an important part of my journey. However, my parents and my older brother built the foundation for the person I am today. My parents in particular made sure to teach me at a very young age that nothing is guaranteed and if there is one thing you can control it is work ethic and what you put into it. My father in particular has helped me adopt this mindset, he always said to me, “whatever you do, you show up”. At the time I always thought this saying only applied to performances, games, etc. little did I know this saying applies to every aspect of life. I am eternally grateful for my parents sacrificing so much for my brother and I. Thank you for taking the time out to read my article, you can find my social media links below! Cheers!
