Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Lee.
Hi Brenda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started when I took photography in middle school which is where my love was introduced. I never pursued photography after that until I was an adult when my older sister bought a new camera. She let me use it and I was reintroduced to the art. I loved it so much that I decided to purchase my own DSLR camera. I have been working towards building my business ever since. I recently had two of my images published in the CON magazine and then 4 more images will be published in the upcoming issue with Moevir Paris Magazine. I have so many more milestones to meet, but I look forward to growing my business and continue to do what I love!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been easy. I relocated from Boston to Atlanta seven years ago and I had to start over. With no family or friends in GA, I had to put myself out there in unfamiliar territories and I am still doing that today. I am still building my clientele here and I am continuously networking as much as I can. I am self-taught as well and still learning. People think that photography is just a click of a camera but it’s so much more to it than that. It’s not easy learning on your own. But I am proud to say that no one taught me. I taught myself and I am still teaching myself. But it is so rewarding to me, so I wouldn’t have it any other way and it’s only up from here!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a freelance photographer who specializes in fashion, Editorial, Weddings and Elopement photography. I am known mostly for my editorial work but I am now growing in the wedding field as well.
I am most proud of my growth and how far I have come without throwing in the towel. I am also proud that I do this while working full-time and being a mom to two kids.
What sets me apart is my personality and my desire to produce quality work. I want my clients to feel so comfortable during their sessions like we are besties lol. I want them to have an amazing experience when they work with me. And trust that I will put my all into my work.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would say to just do what you love! If photography is something that you truly enjoy and are passionate about, don’t give up! Don’t listen to everyone else. People are going to criticize and judge but keep your eyes forward and follow your passion. Imposter syndrome is real but don’t let it get the best of you. Photography is an art and art looks different for everyone. It may take you longer than others to understand the ins and outs or you might take off from the very beginning. At the end of the day, you are the only one that can make it happen for yourself. Just keep going no matter what!
