Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Nur.
Hi Sara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a certified health and life coach through Health Coach Institute. I also have my Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Society, and Environment, a multi-disciplinary track, from the University of Minnesota. I was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but am ethnically Eritrean and Ethiopian. My family and I immigrated to Minnesota in December 2018 after two long years of applying and waiting.
As a Coach, I offer Coaching services through my business, Revitalized Living LLC, through which my clients are guaranteed to find wholeness, wisdom, and wellness. I help support you in knowing yourself, staying authentic, and being empowered. I began my personal journey during the latter half of 2018. My big sister pushed me in the direction of becoming a life coach, but I didn’t know what that meant or entailed. I learned coaching involves the ability to provide judgment-free compassion and understanding while also honoring authenticity and truth to maintain the highest level of personal growth and transformation. That’s what I do and I’m so grateful to be here!
A little about my personal story is that my main areas of personal struggle were in my mental health and life. I know that might sound broad, but I believe both go hand in hand. We cannot have our life without our health, and we cannot maintain our health if we don’t position our lives to reflect that. I have been studying in the health industry since middle school because I wanted to pursue a dental career by becoming a dentist. My main work has been managing dental offices from Minnesota to Atlanta and providing exceptional care and service to the patients. One thing I noticed, however, is a common pattern of being afraid of judgment. 99% of the patients mark some sort of mental health issue, regardless of their demographics and background. I have been able to help patients accept treatment, find their self-worth, and smile from their hearts. That was fulfilling for me, but I didn’t know how to find it for myself.
I suffered from extreme anxiety, depression, and mental health issues that stemmed from me not being able to truly be myself and find my identity in this world. I suppressed my voice and true feelings of expression and was imploding daily. I was also diagnosed with IBS, PCOS, and at 5’6 I weighed almost 180 pounds. I was there for others but neglected to be there for myself. I had self-esteem issues and a fake sense of being and confidence, although my intentions were in the right place, my actions didn’t necessarily reflect that. I was struggling to find the right kind of support to help me find my own voice and not speak on behalf of others or to please others while making it seem like it was my own. I was so focused on being something and someone I wasn’t that I ended up having emotional outbursts and psyching myself out alone. I thought no one would understand me and would instead judge me. I tried taking anti-anxiety pills for a few months, but I said no. I can improve my health and my life if I choose to take control of it with Allah’s guidance and permission. Happiness is a choice. I need to try and make a change in my life and get my mental health in a better place so I can get my physical health in check and in turn my life and the relationships in it to also become healthier. How we do one thing is how we do everything – we are creatures of habit and patterns, but those habits and patterns that may have served us once before (with a positive underlying intention of course) may no longer serve us and that is where and how we feel stuck. I found my coach and went through intensive training and coaching (it began with 3 months of weekly coaching, and I then decided to complete a dual certification program). I am currently weeks away from completing a second dual Mastery certification in the Advanced and Mastery Transformation Coaching Method. I was able to lose 50 pounds in a short time focusing on my mental health and positioning my physical health and life to align and have maintained my weight ever since 2019. My transformation occurred before and during quarantine and the pandemic and that is what has inspired me to continue my work and launch my own business.
As a health and life coach, I evaluate clients’ lifestyles, deal with health and life concerns, and I assist clients in making healthy, reasonable, and realistic changes to promote improvement in health and life wellness. This is accomplished through a collaborative partnership between the coach, me, and the client, you. I provide you with the ultimate support, systems, and accountability to achieve long-lasting changes and break habits and patterns that keep you in a stuck state. While I provide that, you are required to commit to yourself and show up for yourself in whatever way you define that, to maintain the growth that you desire.
As your coach, I will 1. Challenge you to question how you approach every aspect of your life, 2. I unlock potential so you are empowered to create anything you desire, and 3. I inspire you to change the way you live day-to-day to be more aligned with who you want to be. As a coach, I work on all three domains of well-being: physical, emotional, and cognitive. As your coach, I am NOT a therapist or medical professional. I do not analyze, diagnose, prescribe treatment, or work with clients to resolve past issues or traumas. My purpose is to focus on current obstacles and taking results-oriented actions to move from stuck to liberated. My skills lie in knowing the most empowering questions to ask to bring those answers forward, thereby expanding the menu of choices the client must create what they want in every aspect of their lives.
Now, let’s talk about how I provide my services: I provide one on one coaching, group coaching, and workshops. I can provide guidance in a number of ways, including but not limited to finding work/life balance, changing or beginning careers, managing stress, improving health, increasing confidence, improving communications, creating a business plan, starting a business, setting financial goals, buying a home, choosing a school or educational program, improving relationships, and so much more. You will typically meet with me for 30-60 minutes weekly, at least for 3 months (the minimum amount of time required to help you facilitate lasting positive transformation in your lives). Some clients prefer to work with a coach over a longer period of time and even over several years, but it really depends on the scope of the client’s need and the depth of inner work that’s required to help the client achieve their goals. Covid-19 has caused a lot of disruption and chaos in our lives, and I am here to help people get out of that state. Mainly because I couldn’t find a coach like me for me. So, I became the coach I needed for me and for others.
In conclusion, I am planning a life balance workshop this month, as for my business, July is the month of Life Balance and Self-Care. I am also in the process of publishing a book that outlines the main areas of inner work that must be done in order to have it radiate on the outer display. To close, I want to help people find their own magnificence and bask in it! So, I challenge you to dare to achieve your goals and live unapologetically!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Undergoing this process has not been easy, but it is a possibility for me. The main obstacles that have led me to feel duress have been letting go of my perfectionism for real, the imposter syndrome appearing often, and being afraid. Afraid of what? It all! The failure, the success, and the what ifs. Learning to let go has finally allowed me to not have to learn things the hard way. I’ve had to deal with personal issues from my childhood and adulthood, which was trying at times. I didn’t think I had the right amount of resilience and emotional intelligence, but I also didn’t give myself compassion, love, understanding, curiosity, and a safe space to process myself and transform. I was so rigid in my ways I had such a hard time learning to be flexible. Once that flexibility of myself was tapped into, it has been a much smoother sailing since. I started off not having the right tools and skills but undergoing the coaching process myself for the last few years has allowed me to grasp a stronger appreciation for it and creating that sense of value for others. People don’t understand what coaching is or have convinced themselves that they don’t need help. That may be true for now, but at some point, you will need help, and you may not be ready. I am here for you when you are ready for you to show up for yourself. Letting go of my perfectionism (I self-diagnosed myself with OCD at some point) has given me the self-empowered freedom to experience myself in all aspects, whereas before, I was afraid to make mistakes and have flaws. Being vulnerable to your mistakes and flaws helps turn you from a diamond in the rough to a diamond in the being. I am a diamond in the being. I did the work. It’s difficult and requires an extreme amount of courage and I am here to push you to the point to which I have already pushed myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My intro story shares a lot of this background information, but I specialize in helping people find tangible and realistic results without remembering who they are being. It comes so naturally that they can do the change work without knowing they’re changing. I wanted to become a dentist since my early teens because of my own dental experience that changed my life. Unfortunately, I chose not to pursue it for several reasons that did not align with me and my values. I have always known I wanted to work with people and change their lives by me being me and adding whatever spice I can add in their lives.
I have extremely strong communication skills. English, literature, language, art, music, singing, instruments, poetry, writing, creating, feeling, intuition, and genuine care and love for human beings allow me to be a non-ideal Master Coach. I am a third-culture kid and can communicate comfortably in five languages, including English (Arabic, French, Amharic, and Tigrinya are the rest). I see myself as a physical bridge between cultures. I understand languages, accents, cultures and their nuances, mannerisms, foods, dance, dress, and so much more because I was raised around international people. If I am unable to have a healthy rapport with someone, I will extend myself and do research in order to establish that rapport. I strive to change a person’s life by each simple interaction, message, laugh, conversation, or smile that I share. I speak and exist with a sense of realistic purpose and that is what makes me unique and different as a Master Health and Life Coach. I make sure to provide the safest space while also practicing patience and gratitude, but primarily authenticity and intention. I also provide consulting for businesses and corporations that are in need of drastic change but have no idea how to begin navigating that process. That is where I come in. I pull on my life and my own experiences as an example for change. I use myself as proof and the possibility of change and transformation.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Individualization, Intuition, Compassion, and Non-judgement. Oh, and of course, my Multi-lingual and cross-cultural understanding/abilities.
